How Red Ribbon Started
Red Ribbon began its journey in 1979. It was started by Amalia Hizon Mercado and her husband, Renato Mercado. They had five children who also helped.
The first Red Ribbon shop was a small cake place. It was located on Timog Avenue in Quezon City, Philippines. Amalia's daughter, Teresita Moran, created many of the cakes. These cakes became very famous in the Philippines.
Growing Bigger: Red Ribbon's Expansion
Red Ribbon quickly grew beyond the Philippines. In 1984, they opened their first store outside the country. This store was in West Covina, California, in the United States.
The company started letting other people open Red Ribbon stores in 1999. This is called franchising. It helped Red Ribbon grow even more.
Today, there are many Red Ribbon stores. There are over 200 branches all over the Philippines. In the United States, you can find them in many states. These include California, Nevada, New Jersey, Arizona, New York, Virginia, Illinois, Michigan, and Texas.
Joining the Jollibee Family
In 2005, a big change happened for Red Ribbon. It was bought by Jollibee Foods Corporation. Jollibee is a very large and well-known food company from the Philippines.
Red Ribbon Bakeshop, Inc. is now part of the Jollibee family. It is managed through Jollibee's company called RRB Holdings.
