Regensdorf is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Dielsdorf District within the canton of Zürich. Regensdorf is the biggest town in the Furttal region.
You can find Katzensee lake here. It has a fun swimming area called Strandbad Katzensee. This spot is right on the border with the Affoltern part of Zürich.

History of Regensdorf
Regensdorf has a long and interesting history! It was first mentioned way back in the year 870. Back then, it was known as Reganesdorf.
Later, in 931, it was called Wat. In 1040, it was named Adalinchova. This was probably around the time Alt-Regensberg Castle was built. The castle was constructed by a powerful family called the House of Regensberg.
Geography and Nature
Regensdorf covers an area of about 14.6 square kilometers (about 5.6 square miles). A large part of this land, about 43.5%, is used for farming. Forests cover about 23.6% of the area. About 30.6% of the land has buildings or roads. The rest, 2.3%, includes rivers or mountains.
The town is located on both sides of a stream called the Furtbach. Regensdorf includes a few smaller villages. These are Watt (which has hamlets like Oberdorf, Altburg, Katzensee, and Neu-Hard), Adlikon, and Regensdorf itself (with hamlets like Alt-Hard and Geissberg).
Regensdorf is in a flat area called a plain. It sits at an elevation of 443 meters (1,453 feet) above sea level. The Furt valley, where the town is, is surrounded by several hills.
- To the north is Regensberg hill, which is 617 meters (2,024 feet) high. Regensberg Castle stands on top of this hill.
- To the northwest, you'll find Lägern, which is 866 meters (2,841 feet) tall.
- To the southwest is Altberg, at 632 meters (2,073 feet).
- To the south is Gubrist, which is 615 meters (2,018 feet) high. The A1 motorway passes through Gubrist via the Gubrist Tunnel.

Regensdorf has a population of 18,568. About 31.4% of the people living here are from other countries. Over the last ten years, the population has grown by about 16.5%.

SN6 Night Train
The SN6 is a special night train. It runs one service from Zürich Tiefenbrunnen to Regensdorf-Watt. It leaves Tiefenbrunnen at 00:56 and arrives at Regensdorf-Watt at 01:21.
New Train Connection
In September 2014, a new S-Bahn connection started. This train goes from Regensdorf to Zürich Hauptbahnhof. It even stops at an underground station near the ETH Hönggerberg "Science City" campus.

The closest Zürich trolleybus stop is for line 46. You can find it about 1.3 miles southeast of Regensdorf, in Höngg.
Sports in Regensdorf
Regensdorf has its own amateur football (soccer) club called FC Regensdorf. They play their games at the Sportanlage Wisacher. As of the 2019–20 season, they play in the 2. Liga, which is the sixth level of football in Switzerland.
