The Revere House was a fancy hotel in Boston, Massachusetts. It was built in 1847 and stood in a busy area called Bowdoin Square. For many years, it was a very important place in Boston. Sadly, a big fire destroyed the building in 1912.

Building the Revere House

The Revere House was designed by an architect named William Washburn. It was built on the spot where a famous Boston merchant, Kirk Boott, used to live. The hotel was a project of a group called the Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association. They decided to name their new hotel after Paul Revere. He was one of the people who helped start their association.

Famous Visitors

Many people thought the Revere House was Boston's best hotel. It welcomed many important and famous guests.

  • The famous writer Charles Dickens stayed there.
  • The amazing singer Jenny Lind, known as "The Swedish Nightingale," also visited.

Who Owned and Ran the Hotel?

Over the years, several important people owned the Revere House. These included Otis Norcross, Frederick W. Lincoln, Uriel Crocker, and Nathaniel J. Bradlee.

A man named Paran Stevens was the manager for many years. Different companies also helped run the hotel. These included Chapin, Gurney & Co., C.B. Ferrin, and later, J.F. Morrow & Co.
