Reynoldsville is a small town, also called a borough, located in Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is about 73 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. This area is known for its soft coal. In 2010, the population was 2,759 people.

The town was first called Winslow Township. It was renamed Reynoldsville in 1850 after Thomas Reynolds, who was the local postmaster.

History of Reynoldsville

In 1855, a man named Tilton Reynolds owned the land where Reynoldsville is today. He started selling pieces of land to create a new town. Over the years, Reynoldsville grew into the town we know.

Growing Industries in Reynoldsville

Reynoldsville developed many industries. These included silk mills, factories for bricks and tiles, a tannery, a macaroni factory, and even an asbestos plant. These businesses provided many jobs for the people living there. In 1913, the borough became much larger. It took in West Reynoldsville and three other big areas nearby.

The Herpel Brothers Foundry and Machine Shop is an important historical building in Reynoldsville. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. This means it is a special place recognized for its history.

Geography of Reynoldsville

Reynoldsville is located in the eastern part of Jefferson County. It sits in the valley of Sandy Lick Creek, where another stream called Soldier Run joins it.

Roads and Waterways

U.S. Route 322, also known as Main Street, goes through the borough. This road leads northwest about 12 miles to Brookville, which is the main town of the county. It also goes southeast about 10 miles to Luthersburg.

Pennsylvania Route 950 goes northeast from Reynoldsville along the Sandy Lick Creek valley for about 6 miles to Falls Creek. Pennsylvania Route 310 heads south about 12 miles to Punxsutawney.

Reynoldsville has a total area of about 1.42 square miles (3.67 square kilometers). A small part of this area, about 0.03 square miles (0.07 square kilometers), is water. The town's water flows into Redbank Creek. This creek eventually flows into the Allegheny River and then into the Ohio River.
