About Rezz

Early Life and Music Start

Isabelle Rezazadeh was born in Ukraine in 1995. Her mother is Ukrainian and her father is Iranian. When she was young, her family moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. While in high school, Rezz worked at a Hard Rock Cafe.

Rezz started being a DJ when she was 16 years old. At first, she played music by other artists. But after seeing a concert by the famous DJ deadmau5, she felt inspired to create her own music. Rezz knew by age 18 that she wanted to work in the music world.

Starting Her Career (2013–2016)

In 2013, Rezz began making music on her laptop at home. She shared her songs on SoundCloud, a website for music. Her first EP, Insurrection, was released in July 2015.

Later that year, she released music with Mau5trap, a record label owned by deadmau5. Another famous DJ, Skrillex, noticed Rezz's music online. He followed her and sent her a message on Twitter.

In 2016, Rezz released two more EPs with Mau5trap: The Silence is Deafening and Something Wrong Here. Something Wrong Here even reached number 19 on the Billboard Dance Charts in the United States.

First Albums (2017–2018)

In 2017, Rezz released her first full-length album, Mass Manipulation. A music video for her song "Relax" was released to help promote the album. Mass Manipulation came out digitally in August 2017 and as a vinyl LP in October 2017. The album won the award for Best Electronic Album of the Year at the Juno Awards in 2018.

Rezz announced her second album, Certain Kind of Magic, in June 2018. She released two songs from the album, "Witching Hour" and "Hex". "Hex" was a collaboration with another artist called 1788-L. The album was released in August through Mau5trap.

New Music and Projects (2019–2021)

In May 2019, Rezz announced her EP Beyond the Senses. She released a song called "Dark Age" and later a collaboration with the band Underoath called "Falling." This song came with a music video and a special online VR listening party.

Rezz was also featured in a 2020 documentary film called Underplayed. She performed a DJ set after the film's first showing in Canada.

In 2021, Rezz worked with deadmau5 on a song called "Hypnocurrency." She also performed at a virtual music festival. Later that year, she released "Taste of You" with Dove Cameron. Her third album, Spiral, came out in November 2021.

Her Own Label and Recent Work (2022–Present)

In 2022, Rezz started her own record label, which she named HypnoVizion Records. The first music released on her new label was a Halloween-themed mix and album.

In April 2023, Rezz announced an EP called It's Not a Phase. She described this music as "goth-punk." It was released in July.

In October, Rezz and deadmau5 released "Infraliminal." This was their first song together as REZZMAU5. Rezz said that deadmau5's original song "Superliminal" inspired her to make music. In January 2024, Rezz released new songs with Subtronics and Holly. She also announced her fourth album, Can You See Me?, which was released in March 2024.

Rezz's Music Style

Rezz is known for her unique electronic music. Her sound is often called "midtempo bass" and has a modern "new beat" feel. In 2015, MTV called her the "new queen of the dark techno scene."

Many people describe Rezz's music as "dark," "menacing," and "eerie." Spotify called her one of the best producers of "downtempo soundscapes." Rezz herself describes her music as "eerie, grungy, dungeon sounds."

Influences and Signature Look

When Rezz was growing up, she mostly listened to bands, especially punk and rock bands. Some bands she liked were My Chemical Romance, Bring Me the Horizon, and Underoath. Silverstein also influenced her EP It's Not A Phase.

Deadmau5 was a big inspiration for Rezz when she was starting out. She also looks up to other Canadian artists like Zeds Dead and Metric.

Rezz is famous for the special LED "hypno glasses" she wears during her live shows. These glasses light up in a spiral pattern.
