Charles Richard Moll (born January 13, 1943 – died October 26, 2023) was an American actor. He was best known for playing the friendly bailiff, Aristotle Nostradamus "Bull" Shannon, on the TV show Night Court. This popular sitcom aired on NBC from 1984 to 1992.

Richard Moll also had a very recognizable deep voice. He used it to play many characters in animated shows. One of his most famous voice roles was Two-Face in the Batman: The Animated Series. He also voiced characters in The New Batman Adventures.

Early Life and Growing Up

Charles Richard Moll was born in Pasadena, California. His mother, Violet Anita, was a nurse, and his father, Harry Findley Moll, was a lawyer.

Richard Moll was very tall from a young age. By the time he was 12, he was already 6 feet tall! He kept growing until he reached about 6 feet 8 inches. He went to the University of California, Berkeley for college.

Acting Career

Because of his impressive height and deep voice, Richard Moll often played big or powerful characters. In 1977, he played Joseph Smith, who founded the Latter Day Saint movement, in the movie Brigham.

He also appeared in the TV series Happy Days in 1979. In 1981, he acted alongside Jan-Michael Vincent and Kim Basinger in the movie Hard Country. That same year, he played a funny abominable snowman in the comedy film Caveman.

In 1983, Richard Moll shaved his head for a role in the science fiction movie Metalstorm: The Destruction of Jared-Syn. The people making the TV show Night Court loved this look when he auditioned. They asked him to keep his shaved head for his role as Bull Shannon, which became his most famous part. He even used his "Bull" character in commercials!

Moll also appeared in the 1986 horror film House, where he played Big Ben. This role earned him a nomination for a Saturn Award. He also made guest appearances in other popular TV shows like Highlander: The Series, Babylon 5, and Married... with Children. He even played a cyclops in an episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys.

Later in his career, Moll took on different types of roles. In the 1999 movie But I'm a Cheerleader, he played a kind gay man. He also played the drifter on the Nickelodeon show 100 Deeds for Eddie McDowd. In 2001, he was the ghost haunting a mansion in Scary Movie 2.

Voice Acting Work

Richard Moll's deep, growling voice made him perfect for many animated characters, especially villains. He was the voice of Two-Face in Batman: The Animated Series and The New Batman Adventures.

He also voiced Scorpion in later episodes of Spider-Man. In The Incredible Hulk, he was the voice of the Abomination.

Moll also lent his voice to video games. He was the Devil Hulk in the 2005 game Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. In the 2010 game Dante's Inferno, he voiced both Death and King Minos.

Death

Richard Moll passed away at his home in Big Bear Lake, California, on October 26, 2023. He was 80 years old.
