Richard Warren Schickel (born February 10, 1933 – died February 18, 2017) was an American writer and filmmaker. He was known for being a film critic, which means he watched movies and wrote reviews about them. He also studied the history of movies as a film historian.

Schickel worked for Time magazine as a film critic for many years, from 1965 to 2010. He also wrote for other popular magazines like Life and the Los Angeles Times Book Review.

He appeared in a documentary film called For the Love of Movies: The Story of American Film Criticism (2009). In this film, he talked about how film critics changed over time. He and other critics in the 1960s had different ideas about movies compared to older critics. For example, they disagreed with critics who thought movies like Bonnie and Clyde (1967) were too violent. Besides movies, Schickel also wrote about cartoons, especially Peanuts.
