History of Richmond, Kansas
Richmond was started in the year 1870. It got its name from a local farmer named John C. Richmond. He was very generous and gave 40 acres of his land to the railroad. This land was used to build a train station.
The very first post office in Richmond opened its doors in April 1870. This made it easier for people to send and receive letters.
Geography and Location
Richmond is a small city in terms of its size. The United States Census Bureau says that the city covers about 0.30 square miles (0.78 square kilometers). All of this area is land, meaning there are no large lakes or rivers within the city limits.
