Aerosmith is a famous American rock band that started in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1970. The band has five main members: Steven Tyler (who sings and plays keyboards), Joe Perry (who plays guitar), Tom Hamilton (who plays bass guitar), Joey Kramer (who plays drums), and Brad Whitford (who also plays guitar).

Their music style is mostly blues-based hard rock. But they also mix in sounds from pop rock, heavy metal, and rhythm and blues. Many other rock artists have been inspired by Aerosmith's unique sound. People sometimes call them "the Bad Boys from Boston" or "America's Greatest Rock and Roll Band."

The Start of Aerosmith

How the Band Formed

The band started when Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton, who were in a band called the Jam Band, met Steven Tyler, Joey Kramer, and another guitarist named Ray Tabano. Together, they decided to form Aerosmith.

In 1971, Ray Tabano left the band, and Brad Whitford joined as the new guitarist. After this change, the band began to become very popular in Boston.

Early Success and Albums

Aerosmith signed with Columbia Records in 1972. They quickly started releasing many successful albums that sold millions of copies. Their first album, called Aerosmith, came out in 1973.

This was followed by Get Your Wings in 1974. In 1975, they became even more famous with their album Toys in the Attic. Their next album, Rocks in 1976, made them true hard rock superstars. All five of their first albums have sold millions of copies.
