Riley Lake is a beautiful lake located in Northwestern Ontario, Canada. It is found in the Kenora District, within the area of Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls. This lake is an important part of the huge Hudson Bay drainage basin, which means its water eventually flows into Hudson Bay.

About Riley Lake

Riley Lake is a freshwater lake, like many others in Ontario. It's a natural feature of the landscape, formed over many years. The lake is not very big, measuring about 490 meters (or 0.3 miles) long and 220 meters (or 0.14 miles) wide. It sits at an elevation of 394 meters (about 1,293 feet) above sea level.

How Water Flows Through Riley Lake

Water is always on the move, and Riley Lake is no exception! It has water flowing into it and out of it, connecting it to a much larger water system.

  • Water In: The main source of water flowing into Riley Lake comes from an unnamed creek on its western side. This creek brings fresh water into the lake.
  • Water Out: On the eastern side of Riley Lake, another unnamed creek carries water away. This outflowing water then travels to Gibi Lake.

Journey to Hudson Bay

The water from Riley Lake goes on a long journey! From Gibi Lake, it flows into the Adams River. The Adams River then leads to the famous Lake of the Woods. From there, the water continues into the Winnipeg River, which then empties into Lake Winnipeg. Finally, the water from Lake Winnipeg flows through the Nelson River all the way to Hudson Bay. This shows how all these lakes and rivers are connected, forming a massive water network!
