Rio Rico is a community in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, in the United States. It is a place where many people live, but it is not an official city or town. Instead, it is called a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means the U.S. government defines its borders just for counting people in the census. In 2020, about 20,549 people lived here. Rio Rico used to be four smaller CDPs, but they were combined into one larger area.

Location and Size of Rio Rico

Rio Rico is found in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. It is located north of Nogales. Two important waterways meet here: Sonoita Creek and the Santa Cruz River.

The community covers a total area of about 62.3 square miles (161.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land. Rio Rico also includes the location of an old ghost town called Calabasas, Arizona.

According to the census from 2010, there were 18,962 people living in Rio Rico. This made it the second-largest community in Santa Cruz County at that time. The largest community is the county seat, Nogales.

In 2020, the population grew to 20,549 people. The community has a mix of different backgrounds. About 85.3% of the people are of Hispanic or Latino heritage. Other groups include Black or African American, Native American, Asian, and Pacific Islander people. About 11.4% of the population is non-Hispanic white.
