The River Sowe is a cool river in England. It flows through parts of Warwickshire and the West Midlands. This river is like a smaller helper stream, called a tributary, that flows into the bigger River Avon. The Sowe joins the Avon near a village called Stoneleigh, which is about 8 kilometers (5 miles) south of Coventry. The River Sowe is about 19 kilometers (12 miles) long.

Where the River Sowe Starts and Flows

The River Sowe begins its journey in a place called Bedworth. This is about 9 kilometers (5.5 miles) north of the city of Coventry. From there, the river winds its way through several areas.

It flows through Exhall, which is close to a big road junction (Junction 3 of the M6 motorway) and another main road (the A444 road). The river then travels towards the northern and eastern parts of Coventry.

Towns and Villages Along the Sowe

As the River Sowe continues its path, it passes through many interesting districts and villages. These include Longford, Wood End, Walsgrave, Binley, and Willenhall.

It also flows near the village of Baginton. Close to Baginton, the river has a large, steep bank on its southern side. At the top of this bank, people have found the remains of an old Roman fort. This fort is known as the Lunt Fort.

Exploring the Sowe Valley Footpath

There is a special local park that follows the river called the Sowe Valley Footpath. This path is a great place to explore nature. It stretches for about 8.5 miles (13.7 kilometers) along the river.

The footpath starts at the Hawkesbury Junction Conservation Area. It ends at the Stonebridge Meadows Local Nature Reserve. Along its way, the path also goes through other beautiful natural spots. These include the Wyken Slough Local Nature Reserve, Wyken Croft Nature Park, and Stoke Floods Local Nature Reserve. These areas are home to many different plants and animals.
