Baginton is a small village in Warwickshire, England. It's located very close to the city of Coventry. About 755 people lived here in 2011.
Baginton is about 4 miles (6.4 km) south of central Coventry. It's also 4.5 miles (7.2 km) northeast of Kenilworth. The village has a playing field called the Lucy Price playing field.

What is Baginton like?
Baginton is home to Coventry Airport, which opened in 1936. You can also find the Lunt Roman Fort here. There's an old, famous tree called the "Baginton oak." The Midland Air Museum is just outside the village.
A road from Baginton goes to Coventry's Finham area. It crosses the River Sowe near an old mill. This mill is now a restaurant and hotel called The Old Mill.
A Look at Baginton's Past
Baginton has a very long history. People lived here as far back as the Iron Age. The Domesday Book from 1086 shows that in the 11th century, Baginton had 15 homes and a mill.
Baginton Castle was built around 1397. It was built on the site of an even older house from the 6th century. You can still see earthworks from the old village that date back to the 15th and 16th centuries.
What have archaeologists found in Baginton?
In December 2019, archaeologists made exciting discoveries. They found Roman and Anglo-Saxon items. These included pottery, jugs, and jewelry. They were found in old burial grounds.
Researchers believed two graves belonged to important people. One was likely a high-ranking Roman officer. The other was a Roman girl, aged 6 to 12 years old. In the girl's burial site, they found four brooches. They also found a ring with a cicada image and a hair pin.
Coventry Airport's History
Coventry Airport is located in Baginton. It's just southeast of the village. It first opened in 1936 as Baginton Aerodrome. It has been used for many things. These include general flying, flight training, and commercial flights.
When it first opened, planes landed on a grass surface. During World War II, it became a fighter airfield. By October 1941, a Polish fighter squadron was based there. The Midland Air Museum is right next to the airport.

The Lunt Roman Fort
The remains of the ancient Roman Lunt Fort are in Baginton. It's on the north side of the village. Parts of the fort were rebuilt in the 1970s. It's a popular place for school trips. They also have activity days in the summer.
St John the Baptist Church
The Church of St John the Baptist is in the older part of Baginton. A nice walking path starts near the church. It leads to Stoneleigh.
The Baginton Oak Tree
Baginton is home to a very old oak tree. It's often called the Baginton oak. This tree is about 300 to 350 years old. It's thought to be one of the oldest trees in Warwickshire. A nearby pub is named The Oak after it.
Baginton Castle
Henry Percy was once held prisoner at Baginton Castle. This happened after his son, Harry Hotspur, lost the Battle of Shrewsbury. The ruins you can see today are from a house built in the late 1300s. It's not very well known because it's in a wooded area on private land.
If an older Baginton Castle existed, there are no signs of its ruins. Baginton Castle and its old fish ponds are a Scheduled Monument. The castle ruins are also a Grade II listed building. The site was opened to the public in 2009.
