Riverside is a community located in Harford County, Maryland, in the United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP), which means it's a special area defined for collecting population data. In 2020, about 7,021 people lived in Riverside.

Sometimes, people use "Riverside" and "Belcamp" to mean the same place. Both names are accepted for the local U.S. Postal Service ZIP Code, which is 21017. However, the original community of Belcamp is actually a bit south of Riverside, near U.S. Route 40.

Where is Riverside?

Riverside is located at 39°28′35″N 76°14′42″W / 39.47639°N 76.24500°W / 39.47639; -76.24500. It has clear borders that help define its area. To the north, you'll find Maryland Route 7, also called Philadelphia Road. To the south, it's bordered by U.S. Route 40, known as Pulaski Highway.

The community stretches west to the Bush River and James Run. To the east, it reaches Grays Run. Maryland Route 543, also called Riverside Parkway, runs right through the middle of Riverside. This road connects Route 7 and ends at US 40.

Just north of Riverside, MD 543 crosses Interstate 95 at Exit 80. I-95 is a major highway. If you drive southwest on I-95, you'll reach Baltimore in about 30 miles (48 km). If you go northeast, you'll get to Wilmington, Delaware, which is about 45 miles (72 km) away. Bel Air, the main town in Harford County, is about 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Riverside if you take MD 543.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the Riverside area covers about 2.62 square miles (6.78 km²). Only a very small part of this area, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 km²), is water.

Businesses and Shops

Riverside's location is great for businesses. It connects two important roads: Route 40 and Interstate 95, thanks to Route 543. Because of this, many businesses in Riverside cater to people traveling long distances.

You can find four hotels and four gas stations with convenience stores here. All the commercial buildings are located along Route 543, also known as Riverside Parkway.

The Riverside area also has several business parks. One large industrial park is home to many companies and offices, including Northrop Grumman. At one time, Mercedes-Benz had a manufacturing building here, but it's now closed.

Another business park was built in 2000 on Route 40. This used to be the site of the Bata Shoes factory. It first housed offices for companies like Clark Turner Signature Homes and SURVICE Engineering. Later, other companies like Booz Allen Hamilton and SafeNet also moved into this growing business park.

Most people in Riverside are White (about 79.6%). About 15.2% are African American, and smaller percentages are Asian, Native American, or from other backgrounds. About 3.2% of the population identified as Hispanic or Latino.
