Early Life and Music Beginnings
Rob Bourdon was born in Calabasas, California. When he was young, he took classical piano lessons. He became interested in playing the drums after going to an Aerosmith concert. At the concert, he even met the band's drummer, Joey Kramer.
Rob also looked up to bands like Tower of Power and Earth, Wind and Fire for inspiration. He went to Agoura High School in Agoura Hills. There, he met his future bandmates, Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda, in the school's jazz band. Before becoming a full-time musician, Rob worked at a restaurant and helped organize parties at a bowling alley. He also studied accounting at Santa Monica College.
Rob Bourdon's Music Career
Rob Bourdon and Brad Delson started their own band called Relative Degree. This band played a sold-out show at the Roxy Theatre before they broke up.
Forming Linkin Park
Later, in 1996, Rob joined Brad Delson and Mike Shinoda to form a new band. This band was first known as Xero, but later became Linkin Park. Linkin Park became very successful with their first album, Hybrid Theory, released in 2000. This album sold millions of copies.
Rob Bourdon was Linkin Park's drummer for seven studio albums. He also went on many international tours with the band. Besides playing drums and percussion, he helped manage the band's business. He worked on this with Brad Delson and bassist Dave Farrell.
Challenges and Departure
While making the band's sixth album, The Hunting Party, Rob practiced drumming a lot. He played drums for ten hours a day for seven days in a row, focusing on the song "Keys to the Kingdom". He injured his back during this time but later recovered.
Rob stayed with Linkin Park until 2017. The band took a break after their singer, Chester Bennington, passed away. Rob later told the other band members that he wanted to step away from the band. He did not take part in activities for re-releases or the 2024 album Papercuts. Linkin Park announced in September 2024 that they were reforming with new members, including Colin Brittain as the new drummer.
