Robert Cedrick Baker, III, born on March 14, 1976, is a former professional gridiron football player. He played as a slotback and wide receiver. His last team was the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League from 2004 to 2006. He is the older brother of the late Dante Anderson.
Robert Baker's College Football Days
Baker played college football for the Auburn Tigers football team. He was part of the team during the 1995 and 1996 seasons.
One of his most remembered moments happened in 1996. During a game against Georgia, he caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter. After scoring, Baker celebrated near Georgia's mascot, Uga V. The dog playfully lunged at Baker, and this moment was captured in a famous picture.
Playing in the NFL
Between 1999 and 2003, Baker was a member of the Miami Dolphins of the National Football League. He spent time on the main team, the practice squad, or sometimes was cut and then re-signed. In 2003, Baker also played for the Frankfurt Galaxy in NFL Europe.
Canadian Football League Career
On March 16, 2004, Baker joined the Toronto Argonauts. In his first two seasons with the Argonauts, he was a strong player. He gained over 1,000 receiving yards in each of those years.
Baker also helped his team win a Grey Cup championship in his first year. He scored a 23-yard touchdown reception in that championship game.
Even with these successes, Baker sometimes had challenges on the field. He was also known for having a strong personality. For example, in 2004, Baker and teammate Chuck Winters had a disagreement, which they later resolved with a handshake. In 2005, another disagreement happened on the sidelines during a game in Calgary with kicker Noel Prefontaine.
On August 3, 2006, coach Pinball Clemons did not let Baker play in the first half of a game against the Montreal Alouettes due to team rules. Baker was later released by the Argonauts on August 8, 2006. He was then picked up by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on August 11, 2006, but he did not join that team. On August 22, 2006, Baker announced he was retiring from professional football. He decided to pursue a career in rap music, using the name Shake Severs.
