Roche is a small town, also called a municipality, in Switzerland. It is located in the canton of Vaud, which is like a state or province. Roche is part of the Aigle district.

History of Roche
The town of Roche was first written about in the year 1177. Back then, its name was spelled Rochi.
Geography and Nature
Roche covers an area of about 6.44 square kilometers (2.49 square miles). A big part of this land, about 50.9%, is used for farming. Forests cover almost 30% of the area.
About 17.1% of Roche is built up with buildings and roads. A small part, 0.8%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The rest, about 0.9%, is land that isn't used for farming or building.
Roche is located in the Rhone valley. It sits at the bottom of a mountain called Mont d'Arvel. The Eau Froide river also flows through the area. The municipality includes the main village of Roche and a smaller area called Bez.
Town Symbol: The Coat of Arms
The blazon (description) of Roche's coat of arms is quite unique. It shows a design split down the middle. One side is silver, and the other is blue. At the bottom, there's a zig-zag pattern in green and black. On top of this, you can see a green pine tree and a chamois, which is a type of goat-antelope.
People and Population
Roche has a population of about 955 people (as of 2023). Over the past ten years, the number of people living here has grown by about 5.9%. This growth is mostly because people have moved to Roche from other places.
Most people in Roche speak French, which is about 93.4% of the population. A smaller number of people speak German (2.0%) or Italian (1.5%).
Many residents were born in Roche or in the same canton (Vaud). About 13.6% of the people living in Roche were born outside of Switzerland.
The population of Roche includes people of all ages. About 10.5% are children aged 0-9, and 12.5% are teenagers aged 10-19. Adults aged 20-59 make up a large part of the population. There are also many senior citizens, with about 12.3% aged 60-69 and others in older age groups.
Most households in Roche have an average of 2.3 people. There are also some households where only one person lives.

In the 2009/2010 school year, there were 156 students in the Roche school district. The canton of Vaud provides two years of optional pre-school. Primary school lasts for four years, and lower secondary school lasts for six years.
Some students who live in Roche go to schools in other towns, and some students from other towns come to school in Roche.
Transportation
Roche has its own railway station, called Roche VD. This station is on the Simplon line. You can take trains from Roche to other towns like Grandson, Lausanne, and Aigle.
