History of Rockland
Rockland was founded in 1879. This was 11 years before Idaho officially became a state in 1890. Before Rockland was settled, trappers traveled through the area.
The first people to live there permanently arrived in 1878. A man named Hidalgo Guadelupe Valdez brought his cattle to the valley. He decided to make it his home.
To help his farm grow, he dug a ditch from East Fork Creek. This ditch helped him water his 30 acres of land. He was given a "Water Right" on February 15, 1879. This made him the first settler and the first farmer to use irrigation in the valley.
Where is Rockland?
