Rondae's Early Life and High School Basketball
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson grew up in Chester, Pennsylvania. His mother, Rylanda Hollis, worked hard to support him and his older brother, Rahlir. Rahlir also became a professional basketball player. Rondae started playing basketball seriously when he was 12. He loved playing defense and was good at scoring because he was taller than other kids his age.
He went to Chester High School. There, he had an amazing basketball career. He was the first player ever to be named Delaware County Player of the Year more than once. He helped his team, the Clippers, have their first perfect season without any losses. In his last three years, the Clippers won 91 games and only lost 5. They also won two state championships. He finished his high school career with over 1,000 points and a school record of 780 rebounds.
After high school, Rondae played in the 2013 McDonald's All-American Boys Game. He also took part in the Jordan Brand Classic with other top high school players. He decided to go to the University of Arizona to play for their successful basketball team.
College Basketball Career
During his first year at Arizona, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson became known for his strong play. He was a good scorer, rebounder, and shot-blocker. He often came off the bench as the team's "sixth man." This means he was usually the first player to come into the game from the bench. He even got his first double-double (scoring double digits in two categories, like points and rebounds) against Oregon.
In his second year, Rondae played even better. He scored more points and grabbed more rebounds per game. He became a better leader and improved his offense. He was chosen for the first-team All-Pac-12 and the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. He helped his team reach the Elite Eight in the NCAA tournament twice. On April 7, 2015, Rondae decided to enter the 2015 NBA draft. This meant he would leave college early to play professional basketball.
