Rose Leslie, born on February 9, 1987, is a Scottish actress. She is well-known for her roles as Gwen Dawson in the TV show Downton Abbey and as Ygritte in the fantasy series Game of Thrones. Rose also played Maia Rindell in The Good Fight and Clare Abshire in The Time Traveler's Wife.

Early Life and Education
Rose Leslie was born in Aberdeen, Scotland. She grew up at Lickleyhead Castle in Aberdeenshire, a very old family home, until she was 10 years old. Her family then moved to France for three years.
Rose went to school in Scotland and France. From 2000 to 2005, she attended Millfield, a boarding school in England. After that, she studied acting for three years at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She learned stage combat and graduated in 2008.

Rose Leslie started her acting career by narrating a radio show for BBC Radio.
First Big Roles
Her first main role on screen was in the TV film New Town (2009). For this role, she won an award called the Scottish BAFTA for Best Acting Performance – New Talent.
In 2010, Rose starred in a play called Bedlam at the famous Shakespeare's Globe theatre. She played a character named May.
Her breakthrough role was as Gwen Dawson, a housemaid, in the first season of the TV drama Downton Abbey (2010–2011). While working on Downton Abbey, Rose also appeared in the British drama series Case Histories.
Game of Thrones and Other Shows
From 2012 to 2014, Rose Leslie became very famous for playing Ygritte, a wildling character, in the popular HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones. Critics praised her performance, saying she made the character even more interesting than in the books.
During her time on Game of Thrones, Rose also appeared in the film Now Is Good (2012). She was also in TV shows like Vera, Utopia, and Blandings.
Recent Work
In 2014, she starred in the mini-series The Great Fire and the horror film Honeymoon. She then played DS Emma Lane in the BBC detective drama Luther. In 2015, she was in the action film The Last Witch Hunter.
From 2017 to 2019, Rose Leslie starred in The Good Fight, a legal drama. She played Maia Rindell, a young lawyer. In 2017, she also voiced the character "En" in the video game Echo.

Personal Life
Rose Leslie learned to speak French fluently when her family lived in France. She lived in London for a while but often says she misses Scotland.
In 2011, Rose started dating Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow in Game of Thrones. They got married on June 23, 2018. Their son was born in January 2021. In February 2023, Kit Harington announced they were expecting their second child, and their daughter was born in July 2023.
Interests and Causes
Rose Leslie enjoys many activities like running, rock climbing, cooking, skiing, archery, and playing tennis. She is also a supporter of the charity Firefly International.
