The Mayor of Rosemont, Bradley Stephens, once thought about selling the theatre site. The idea was to use the land for a casino to help the town earn more money. This idea was discussed in 2007 and 2008 with lawmakers. They were looking for ways to support a big public works program.

Theatre Name Changes

In 2012, a company called Akoo International, Inc. bought the rights to name the theatre. They paid $1.5 million for five years. So, for a short time, the theatre was called the Akoo Theatre at Rosemont. This company made interactive media for places like college dorms. They also created cool visual content for artists performing there. However, Akoo International went out of business in January 2013. Because of this, the theatre went back to its original name, Rosemont Theatre, in March 2013.

Plans for Expansion

There were plans in May 2018 to tear down the theatre. The idea was to make more space for the Fashion Outlets of Chicago, which is right next door. The village of Rosemont even approved this plan. But these plans never happened. The expansion for the Fashion Outlets was called off in 2020. So, the Rosemont Theatre was not demolished and is still standing today.
