It sits between the suburbs of Montagu Bay and Rosny Park. Rosny is mostly a quiet place where people live. It is the residential part of the nearby commercial area, Rosny Park.

Rosny's History
Rosny got its name from a family. W.A. Bethune, who owned the land originally, named it after his ancestor. This ancestor was the Duc de Maximilien de Bethune Sully, from a place called Rosny-sur-Seine in France.
The Famous Rosny Children's Choir
Rosny was the starting place for the Australian Rosny Children's Choir. A local music teacher, Jennifer Filby, created the choir in 1967. She first had her students sing carols at a year-end show.
After this success, she was asked to provide a children's group for a play. This play was The King and I at the Theatre Royal in Hobart. This led to the choir officially forming.
The choir quickly became well-known both in Australia and around the world. In 1971, it was the first choir from the southern hemisphere to perform at a big music festival. This was the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod in Wales.
In 1975, the choir made history. They were the first Australian group to perform in China. This was part of Australia's first cultural exchange with the People’s Republic of China. They held concerts in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. They also stopped in British Hong Kong.
Besides tours to Japan (1987) and across Australia, the choir performed a lot in Tasmania. They often worked with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. They also asked Australian composers to create new music for them. One example is There is an Island (1977) by Don Kay.
The choir was known for its excellent performances. It became one of Australia's top children's choirs in the late 1900s.

About 46% of Rosny's total land area is reserved land. This means it is kept for nature.
Rosny Hill Recreation Area is covered in native plants. Even though it's not very high (94.25 metres), its position offers great views. There's a lookout at the top of the hill.
There are five types of plant communities in the Rosny Hill Nature Recreation Area. These include different kinds of woodlands and grasslands. Some rare and threatened plant species live here. These include the Leafy sun orchid and Grassland flax lily.
Local Services and Facilities
In 2010, Housing Tasmania bought the Marantha Nursing Home. It is now called Bellview Manor. It provides hostel accommodation with 32 bedrooms and 8 units.
Rosny has a main non-residential facility, the Rosny Waste Water Treatment plant. It is located off Bastick Street and owned by Taswater. This plant used to create bad smells. However, modern methods have fixed this problem.
Work started in 2004 to improve the plant. This included installing pumps and pipes. It also involved a large storage tank. These improvements allow treated water to be used for farming. The work was finished in October 2006.
Near the border of Rosny and Rosny Park, you can find several clubs. These include the Clarence RSLA and Rosny Park Bowls Club. There is also the Rosny Park Tennis Club and Rosny College. The Charles Hand Memorial Park is also in this area.
