Round Mountain is a cool peak that sits right on the border between two states: Massachusetts and Connecticut! It's part of a bigger group of mountains called the Taconic Range. This mountain is a great spot for nature lovers and hikers.

Round Mountain: A Border Peak

Round Mountain stands tall at 2,296 feet (700 m) (about 700 meters) high. It's a special mountain because its peak and southern parts are in Connecticut, while its northern side is in Massachusetts.

Where is Round Mountain?

This mountain is found within the towns of Mount Washington, Massachusetts and Salisbury, Connecticut. Much of the mountain is protected land. It is part of the Mount Washington State Forest in Massachusetts. In Connecticut, it's part of the Mount Riga Forest Preserve.

The water from the south side of Round Mountain flows into Riga Lake and South Pond. From there, it travels into Wachocostinook Brook, then Salmon Creek, and finally into the Housatonic River. The Housatonic River eventually reaches Long Island Sound.

The water from the north side of the mountain flows into a place called Sages Ravine. This water then goes into Schenob Brook, also joining the Housatonic River and then Long Island Sound.

Round Mountain has other mountains nearby. To its northwest is Mount Frissell. To the north, you'll find Mount Ashley. To the east, there's Bear Mountain.

Exploring the Mountain Trails

If you like hiking, Round Mountain has a trail called the Mount Frissell Trail. This trail connects to other famous paths. To the west, it links up with the South Taconic Trail. To the east, it connects to the very long Appalachian Trail.
