Rudolf Seiters is a German politician born on October 13, 1937, in Osnabrück. He is a member of the CDU party. Seiters has held several important roles in the German government. From 1989 to 1991, he was the Federal Minister for Special Affairs and led the German Chancellery. He then served as the Minister of the Interior from 1991 to 1993. Later, from 1998 to 2002, he was the Vice President of the German Parliament, known as the Bundestag. Since 2003, he has been the president of the German Red Cross.

Rudolf Seiters' Early Life and Career
Rudolf Seiters finished school at the Gymnasium Carolinum in Osnabrück in 1959. He then studied Jurisprudence (law) at the University of Münster. He completed his first law exams in 1963 and his second in 1967. From 1968 to 1969, he worked as a legal assistant in Osnabrück.
Seiters is married and has three daughters. He lives in Papenburg. In 2000, he received an honorary doctorate from the Bundeswehr University Munich. Since November 2003, he has been the president of the German Red Cross, a major humanitarian organization.
Political Party Involvement
Rudolf Seiters joined the CDU party in 1958. This party is one of the main political groups in Germany.
- From 1963 to 1965, he was the head of the youth organization of the CDU, called Junge Union, in the Osnabrück-Emsland area.
- He then led the state chapter of the Junge Union in Hannover from 1965 to 1968.
- From 1968 to 1971, he led the newly formed Lower Saxony chapter.
- Seiters was also a member of the national leadership boards for both the Junge Union and the CDU itself for several years.
- From 1972 to 1998, he was a deputy secretary for the CDU in Lower Saxony.
- He was also part of the CDU National Executive Committee from 1992 to 1998.
Time as a Member of Parliament
Rudolf Seiters was a member of the Bundestag, the German Parliament, for a long time. He served from 1969 to 2002.
- From 1971 to 1976 and again from 1982 to 1984, he worked as an executive officer for the CDU/CSU group in Parliament.
- He became the Head Executive Officer for the party group from 1984 to 1989.
- After the 1994 elections, he was a deputy leader of the party group until 1998.
- In 1998, he became the Vice President of the Bundestag, a position he held until 2002.
Prague Embassy Negotiations
In 1989, many East Germans sought safety at the West German embassy in Prague. Rudolf Seiters played a key role in helping them. He successfully talked with the East German government. Thanks to his efforts, these refugees were allowed to travel safely to West Germany.
Government Minister Roles
On April 21, 1989, Rudolf Seiters was appointed Federal Minister for Special Affairs. He also became the head of the German Chancellery, which is like the chief of staff for the German Chancellor.
On November 26, 1991, he became the Minister of the Interior. This role involves overseeing national security and public order.
On June 27, 1993, an event occurred during a police operation. Following this event, Seiters took responsibility and resigned from his position on July 4, 1993.
