School History
The school was started by a group of French nuns called the Society of the Sacred Heart (RSCJ) in 1888.
The idea for Sacré Cœur came from Madeleine Sophie Barat. She founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in Paris in 1800. Sophie grew up during the French Revolution in a small town called Joigny.
She believed that education based on Christian values was important for a fair society. Sophie wanted to create a school for girls that would help each student use their talents fully. She also wanted to help them develop a strong faith and a desire to help others.
School Houses
Sacré Cœur has four Houses. They are named after important people connected to the school. These include the founder, St Madeleine Sophie Barat, and past Mothers Superior. The Houses are Digby, Duschesne, Stuart, and Barat.
Each House has its own colour: red, green, yellow, or blue. The Houses compete in fun events throughout the year. These events include House Athletics, House Swimming, and the House Arts festival.
Sports at Sacré Cœur
Sacré Cœur is a member of Girls Sport Victoria (GSV). This means students can compete against other girls' schools in various sports.

In Year 8, students take part in a two-week City Cite program. This program helps students learn to be organised and responsible. It also helps them work well with others and become more confident. Students get to explore the city and learn in new ways, both alone and in groups. Teachers are there to help them.
Year 9 Notre Monde Program
Year 9 students participate in the Notre Monde program. This program takes place in a special part of the school. It has different units, each lasting six weeks. Notre Monde lets girls experience learning in many different ways. It covers subjects like Social Justice, Visual and Creative Arts, and International Studies. Students and teachers use iPads for this program.
International Immersion Program
In Years 10 and 11, students can join an international immersion program. This program allows them to visit other countries. Past trips have included:
- France
