Where Does Water Flow from The Horn?

Water from The Horn flows in different directions, creating many streams and rivers.

  • To the northeast, water goes into Redington Stream. This stream then joins the South Branch of the Dead River. Finally, it reaches the big Kennebec River and flows into the Gulf of Maine.
  • To the west, water flows into Saddleback Lake, which also connects to Redington Stream.
  • To the south, water enters Winship Stream. This stream then joins Conant Stream, Orbeton Stream, and the Sandy River. The Sandy River is another important river that flows into the Kennebec River.
  • To the southeast, water goes into Hardy Stream, which also connects to Orbeton Stream.

Hiking the Appalachian Trail

A very famous hiking path called the Appalachian Trail goes right over The Horn. This trail is super long, stretching about 2,170 mi (3,490 km)! It starts all the way in Georgia and ends here in Maine. Walking along the ridge of Saddleback, including the top of The Horn, is a big part of this amazing journey.
