Snowboarding Career Highlights

Sage Kotsenburg started his professional career at a young age. He made his debut at the US Open when he was only 12.

Early Wins and New Tricks

At 16, he won a silver medal in slopestyle at the European X Games in 2010. In February 2011, Kotsenburg achieved a major feat. He landed the first-ever Cab double cork 1440 trick at Air & Style in Innsbruck. He also placed third at the 2011 Arctic Challenge. By December 2011, he was named to the U.S. Snowboarding Slopestyle Pro Team. In 2012, he won another Slopestyle silver medal at the Winter X Games XVI.

Olympic Gold and Beyond

Kotsenburg's biggest win came at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. He won the slopestyle gold medal. During his winning run, he performed a trick he had never tried before. He also used an original grab he invented, called the "Holy Crail." This victory made him the first gold medalist of the 2014 Olympic Games. It was also the first medal for the United States at those games.

After his Olympic success, Sage decided to leave competitive snowboarding. He chose to explore backcountry snowboarding instead. This involves riding in natural, untouched snow away from groomed slopes. During the summer, Kotsenburg trains on Mt. Hood at High Cascade Snowboard Camp.
