Saint-Cyr Lake is a beautiful freshwater lake in Quebec, Canada. It is located in the north-eastern part of Senneterre, within the La Vallée-de-l'Or Regional County Municipality. The Saint-Cyr River South flows right through it.

This lake is important for the area's economy. People mostly work in forestry, which means managing forests and cutting trees. Tourism is also popular, with visitors enjoying the lake's natural beauty.

You can reach the lake by forest roads. One road goes north-south along the Saint-Cyr River Valley. Another road goes east-west, connecting to the northern part of the Saint-Cyr Lake Biodiversity Reserve.

The lake's surface usually freezes over from early November until mid-May. However, it's generally safe to walk or play on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.

Exploring Saint-Cyr Lake

Saint-Cyr Lake is quite long, stretching for about 18.7 kilometres (11.6 mi). A big part of it, 12.4 kilometres (7.7 mi), is in the Mesplet Township, and 6.3 kilometres (3.9 mi) is in the Cherrier Township. The lake sits at an elevation of 393 metres (1,289 ft) above sea level.

Rivers Flowing Into and Out of the Lake

The lake gets its water from two main rivers. The Chartrand River flows in from the east. The Saint-Cyr River South also flows into the lake and then continues through it for 16.3 kilometres (10.1 mi) towards the southwest.

The Saint-Cyr River South itself gets water from other lakes, like Barry Lake (Saint-Cyr River South) and Bailly Lake (Saint-Cyr River South).

The Name of Saint-Cyr Lake

The lake used to be called "Maskotirikan Lake." The name "Saint-Cyr" comes from a French family name.

The name "Saint-Cyr" is also linked to the Saint-Cyr River (Opawica River). On September 24, 2003, the Commission de toponymie du Quebec (Quebec's place name commission) officially named the upper part of the river the Saint-Cyr River South. This was because a dam had been built, changing how the river flowed into different water systems.

The name "Lac Saint-Cyr" was officially recognized on December 5, 1968, by the Commission de toponymie du Québec.
