Saint-Genis-Pouilly is a town in eastern France. It is located in the Ain department, which is part of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. A "commune" is like a local government area or a small town.
This town is found in an area called the Pays de Gex. It sits at the bottom of the Jura Mountains. Saint-Genis-Pouilly is very close to the border with Switzerland. It is also part of the larger area around the city of Geneva.
With more than 12,000 people living there, Saint-Genis-Pouilly is one of the biggest towns in the Ain department.
CERN: A Science Hub
A big part of CERN is located in Saint-Genis-Pouilly. CERN is a famous European laboratory. It is where scientists study particle physics. This means they learn about the tiniest parts that make up everything in the universe.
