The Salamandre River is a river in Quebec, Canada. It flows into the Broadback River, which then leads to Rupert Bay and James Bay. The river is located in the Eeyou Istchee Baie-James municipality in the Nord-du-Québec region.
The area around the Salamandre River does not have many roads. However, a main route from Matagami passes about 38.8 kilometres (24.1 mi) southwest of Salamandre Lake. The river usually freezes from early November until mid-May. It is generally safe to travel on the ice from mid-November to mid-April.

The Salamandre River begins where two small forest streams meet. This starting point is about 290 metres (950 ft) above sea level.

How Does the Salamandre River Flow?
The Salamandre River flows for about 47.3 kilometres (29.4 mi). It follows a few different paths along its journey.
River's Journey
- The first 14.9 kilometres (9.3 mi) flow east towards the west side of Salamandre Lake.
- Next, it travels 14.0 kilometres (8.7 mi) northeast through Salamandre Lake. This lake is 14.4 kilometres (8.9 mi) long and sits at an altitude of 265 metres (869 ft). Salamandre Lake is the main water source for the river.
- Then, it flows 8.4 kilometres (5.2 mi) north, making a curve to the northeast. Here, it meets another small river coming from the southwest.
- Finally, it flows 10.0 kilometres (6.2 mi) north until it reaches its end.
Where Does the River End?
The Salamandre River empties into the south shore of the Broadback River. This meeting point is 16.1 kilometres (10.0 mi) upstream from Evans Lake. It is also 9.3 kilometres (5.8 mi) west of the top of Mount Rabbit, which is 390 metres (1,280 ft) high.
