Salvador de Arizón y Sánchez-Fano was a Spanish Lieutenant General. He was a high-ranking military leader who served his country in several important conflicts. He fought in the Cuban War of Independence and the Philippine Revolution. He also held a top position as the head of the Directorate-General of the Civil Guard from June 1917 to December 1918.

Early Life and Military Beginnings
Salvador was born on July 2, 1853, in Barcelona, Spain. His father, Don Salvador Arizón y Castro, was also a famous Spanish General. His father fought in the First Carlist War and the Dominican Restoration War.
When Salvador's father passed away, Queen Isabella II of Spain made Salvador a minor cavalry lieutenant. This was a special honor to remember his father's service. He started his military career in 1871.
Fighting in the Carlist War
Salvador soon joined the Army of the North. He fought in the Third Carlist War, which was a civil war in Spain. He took part in important battles like the Battle of Montejurra and the Siege of Pamplona. He also helped capture Estella-Lizarra from the Carlist forces.
After the war, Salvador was recognized for his bravery. He received the Red Cross of Military Merit award. He also earned two promotions, moving up in rank.
Fighting in Cuba and the Philippines
In 1888, Salvador was promoted to Commander. He served as an aide to General Sabas Marín in Cuba. He returned to Spain in 1893 and became a lieutenant colonel.
Cuban War of Independence
Salvador went back to Cuba to fight in the Cuban War of Independence. This was a war where Cuba fought for its freedom from Spain. During this conflict, Salvador was wounded. However, his bravery earned him another promotion to Colonel of the Cavalry in 1895. He was then made the military commander of Cienfuegos. In 1894, he married Juana Mejía Castaño, and they had eight children together.
Philippine Revolution
Later, Salvador participated in the Philippine Revolution. This was another fight for independence against Spanish rule. He initially did well in the fighting. However, he became very sick and had to return to Spain for medical care.
Leading the Civil Guard and Later Years
After the wars, Salvador continued to serve in important roles. He was given command of different military brigades. He also became the military commander of Cádiz and Guipúzcoa.
In 1906, he was promoted to Divisional General. He took command of the 4th Division and became the military governor of Granada. From 1909 to 1912, he was the military governor of Melilla. During this time, he participated in the Second Melillan campaign and the Kert campaign. For his service, he received the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Maria Cristina .
Director of the Civil Guard
In 1912, Salvador was promoted to Lieutenant General. This was a very high rank. He became the Captain General of the VIII Military Region in Galicia. In 1915, he led the Directorate-General of the Cavalry.
From June 26, 1917, to December 6, 1918, he served as the Director-General of the Directorate-General of the Civil Guard. This was a very important leadership position. His last role was commander of the II Military Region of Andalusia from 1918 until his death. Salvador de Arizón y Sánchez-Fano passed away on March 1, 1921.
