Samuel Lee Horn, born on November 2, 1963, is a former American professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for eight seasons. After his playing career, he worked for the New England Sports Network, a TV channel for Boston sports.

Growing Up: Sam Horn's Early Life
Sam Horn grew up in San Diego. He went to Samuel F.B. Morse High School. There, he played baseball with Mark McLemore. Their coach was Bob Mendoza, a famous coach in San Diego.
Sam Horn's Baseball Career
Sam Horn was chosen by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 1982 draft. He was the 16th player picked overall.
Starting in the Minor Leagues
In 1987, Horn played for the Pawtucket Red Sox. This team is at the Triple-A level, just below the major leagues. He had a great season, hitting for a .321 batting average. He also hit 30 home runs and had 82 runs batted in (RBIs). His slugging percentage, which shows how many bases a player gets per at-bat, was .649. This was the best in the league.
Playing in Major League Baseball
Because of his success, Horn was called up to the Boston Red Sox in the middle of the 1987 season. He continued to play well in the major leagues. As a rookie, he hit .278 with 14 home runs and 34 RBIs. He did this in only 158 times at bat.
During his eight seasons in MLB, Horn played for four teams. These teams were the Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians, and Texas Rangers. Overall, he hit .240 with 62 home runs. In 1991, he hit 23 home runs while playing for the Baltimore Orioles.
Playing Baseball in Taiwan
After leaving MLB, Horn played baseball in Taiwan. He joined the Taipei Gida team in 1997 and 1998. He hit the very first home run in the Taiwan Major League. For a long time, he was the highest-paid player in Taiwan's professional baseball history. He earned $216,000 for the 1997 season. This record was broken in 2006 by Chin-Feng Chen.
A Memorable Game Moment
On April 6, 1992, Sam Horn scored the first-ever run at Camden Yards. This is the home stadium for the Baltimore Orioles.
The "Horn" Strikeout Record
On July 17, 1991, Sam Horn had a very unusual game. He became only the fifth player in MLB history to strike out six times in one game. This happened during a 15-inning game against the Kansas City Royals. After the game, his teammate Mike Flanagan made a famous comment. He said that from then on, six strikeouts would be called a "Horn." Seven strikeouts would be a "Horn-A-Plenty." This funny name for six strikeouts was even added to The Dickson Baseball Dictionary.

In August 2017, Sam Horn started his own TV show. It was called What is Your Pre-Game? and aired on NBC Sports Boston. On the show, he talked to many sports figures and business leaders.
