Saman Ghoddos (born September 6, 1993) is a professional football player. He was born in Sweden, but his parents are from Iran. Saman plays as a midfielder or forward for the Iran national team and for Kalba in the UAE Pro League. He is a very flexible player and can also play as a winger (on the side of the field) or a full-back (a defender).
Saman first played for the Swedish national team. But in 2017, he decided to play for Iran instead.

Club Career Highlights
Playing for Östersund
Starting Strong in 2016
Saman Ghoddos had a great first season with Östersunds FK in 2016. He scored 10 goals in the league. One of his first goals was Östersund's very first goal in the top Swedish league, called Allsvenskan. He even scored two goals against his hometown club, Malmö FF. Because he played so well, big clubs like Hertha Berlin from Germany and Ajax from the Netherlands became interested in him.
Amazing 2017 Season
Saman continued his excellent form in 2017. He helped Östersund reach the final of the Swedish Cup. He scored six goals in six games during the cup, including a fantastic acrobatic goal. He scored his seventh goal in the final, which helped Östersund win the cup. This win meant they could play in the UEFA Europa League for the first time.
In his first game in a UEFA competition, Saman scored a goal and helped set up another. This led to a 2–0 win against Galatasaray. He also scored two goals in the Europa League play-offs against PAOK, which sent his team into the group stages. He scored Östersund's first goal in the group stage too. At the end of the 2017 season, he won the "Attacker of the Year" award. He also scored the winning goal that helped his club move to the knockout stage of the Europa League.
More Success in 2018
In 2018, Saman helped his team against the English club Arsenal in the Europa League. He set up two goals in a 2–1 win. He scored many goals in the league that season, including some amazing free kicks. After playing in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Saman became the captain of his club. He continued to score important goals, including two against Trelleborg, which made him one of the top scorers in the league. He was also named the "Player of the Month" for July.
Moving to Amiens
In August 2018, Saman moved to Amiens SC, a French club in Ligue 1. He signed a five-year contract. This transfer was one of the most expensive in Swedish league history. There was a disagreement about his transfer to Amiens, which meant he was unable to play for a few months.
Saman played his first game for Amiens on August 25, 2018. He scored a goal in their 4–1 win against Reims. He became the first Iranian player to play in the French Ligue 1.
Time at Brentford
Joining on Loan in 2020
On September 21, 2020, Saman joined Brentford, an English club, on a one-year loan. He played his first game for Brentford in October 2020, helping to set up a goal. He scored his first goal for the club in January 2021 in an FA Cup match.
Permanent Move and Premier League
In January 2021, Saman permanently joined Brentford. He scored his first league goal for them later that month. In May 2021, Saman and Brentford won promotion to the Premier League. This was a huge achievement, as it was the first time Brentford had been in the top league in 74 years! Saman played his first Premier League game in August 2021 and scored his first Premier League goal in October 2021. He left Brentford in May 2023 but then re-signed with them for the 2023–24 season. He scored a great goal in October 2023, which was voted the "Premier League Goal of the Month." He left Brentford again when his contract ended in 2024.
Playing for Ittihad Kalba
On September 29, 2024, Saman Ghoddos joined Ittihad Kalba in the United Arab Emirates.
International Career
Playing for Sweden
Because Saman has Iranian parents, he could choose to play for either Iran or Sweden. In December 2016, he was called up to play for Sweden in friendly matches. He played his first game for Sweden in January 2017 and scored his first international goal in a 6–0 win against Slovakia.
Playing for Iran
In June 2017, Saman was asked if he would like to play for Iran. He applied for Iranian citizenship in August, saying it was an honor to play for either country. He later announced that he would join Iran for their World Cup qualifying matches.

Saman made his debut for Iran in a friendly match against Togo in October 2017. He scored his first goal for Iran in a friendly game against Panama in November.
In May 2018, Saman was chosen for Iran's team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. He played in all three World Cup matches as a substitute. He helped Iran win a free kick that led to a goal in their first World Cup win in twenty years against Morocco.
He also played for Iran in the 2019 AFC Asian Cup. In their first match, he came on as a substitute and scored a goal in a 5–0 win against Yemen. Saman was also part of the Iran squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup and the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
