A Look at Sant'Antonino's Past
Sant'Antonino was first mentioned way back in 1219. People found old Roman graves in an area called al Sasso, showing that people lived here a very long time ago!
During the Middle Ages, important churches and hospitals owned land in Sant'Antonino. These included the Church of S. Pietro in Bellinzona and the cathedral of Como.
The village was part of the Bellinzona church area until 1442. Later, it formed its own church area with a nearby town called Cadenazzo. The first church in Sant'Antonino was built before 1291. It was rebuilt in the 1500s and 1600s in the beautiful Baroque style.
