History of Cadenazzo
Cadenazzo was first mentioned in old writings way back in 1335. At that time, there was a place called hospitallis de Cadenazio, which might have been a guesthouse or a hospital. People aren't sure if there was a medieval castle here.
A church in Bellinzona owned some land in Cadenazzo by 1438. There was also a small chapel in Cadenazzo, possibly built in the 1200s, but it's not around anymore. In 1442, Cadenazzo became its own church area, separate from Bellinzona. It then joined with the nearby town of S. Antonino until 1830.
Farming used to be the main activity in the Magadino valley where Cadenazzo is. It wasn't always easy, but things got better after the Ticino river was managed to prevent floods. Since 1973, Cadenazzo has been home to a special Swiss research center for farming and the environment. Also, because of factories, shops, and warehouses near the train station, many people from other towns come to Cadenazzo for work.

The town is located in the Bellinzona district, along a road at the northern base of Monte Ceneri, a mountain.
Cadenazzo's Coat of Arms
A coat of arms is like a special symbol for a town or family. Cadenazzo's coat of arms, since 2005, shows a silver stripe down the middle on a blue background. On top of that, there's a castle gate with two towers, colored red and gold. This new design combines parts of the old coats of arms for Cadenazzo and Robasacco after they merged.
