Sara Maria Forsberg (born on 2 May 1994) is a talented Finnish singer, songwriter, and YouTube star. She is also a television presenter. You might know her by her past stage names like SAARA, Smo, Smoukahontas, or Smokahontas.

As a singer, Sara signed with Capitol Records in 2014. She released her first song, "Ur Cool", in April 2015. This song became a top ten hit in her home country of Finland. She later left the record label in 2016 due to some disagreements. Since then, Sara has continued to make music as an independent artist, working with Universal Music Group. Her YouTube channel has over a million subscribers and more than 100 million views.

Early Life and Background

Sara Forsberg was born on May 2, 1994, in Jakobstad, Finland. Her father was born in Sweden.

When she was young, Sara moved around a lot with her family because her parents were missionaries. She lived in Texas for five years and in the United Kingdom for one year. Even though her native language is Finnish, she spoke mostly English during her first six years because of living abroad. After her travels, she returned to Finland permanently.

Sara spent some years studying at a music academy in Jakobstad. She also studied to become a chef before she started her singing career.

Career Highlights

Starting with YouTube Videos

Sara Forsberg became famous on YouTube with her video "What Languages Sound Like to Foreigners". She posted it on her channel, Smoukahontas Official, on March 3, 2014. This video has been watched over 20 million times!

In the video, Sara showed her amazing ability to copy the sounds and rhythms of different languages. She used made-up words to mimic languages like Japanese, French, Arabic, and Swedish. People all over the world were very impressed by her talent.

She made more videos, including a sequel where she mimicked new languages like "Something African" and "Scottish". Another popular video, "One Girl, 14 Genres", showed her mimicking different styles of music.

Musical Journey

In July 2014, Sara signed a record deal with Capitol Records. This was a big deal because she was the first Finnish person to sign with a major American record label. Her first song, "Ur Cool", came out on April 21, 2015, and was a hit in Finland.

However, Sara left Capitol Records in February 2016. She explained in a YouTube video that her producer left the label, and she felt stuck. Capitol Records agreed to end her contract so she could make music freely again. She also mentioned that she didn't like promoting a song she wasn't happy with.

In April 2016, Sara signed with Universal Music Group. She continued to release music independently. Her first album, Hello I'm Saara, was released on May 27, 2016. The main song from the album was "The Urge".

In 2017, Sara released three more songs: "Permission to Love", "Superpowers", and "All the Love" (featuring Jillionaire). On her birthday, May 2, 2018, she released her second album, Almost Acoustic EP. It had four new songs and one remix. On the same day, she also had her first live concert on YouTube.

Sara also writes songs for other artists. In 2015, she helped write the K-pop song "You Think" for the band Girls' Generation. This song became very popular. She also co-wrote "My Heart Wants Me Dead" for Lisa Ajax in 2016 and "Drip Drop" for Taemin.

She has also been featured on other artists' songs. In June 2015, she was on the song "Vauvoja" by Finnish singer Kasmir, which became a number-one hit in Finland. In 2017, she was featured on "Can't Buy Love" by THRDL!FE.

On TV and in Movies

Sara Forsberg has also appeared in movies and on television. In October 2014, she had a small role in the film Skiptrace, directed by Finnish director Renny Harlin.

A cool fact about Sara is that she worked with Lucasfilm to create an alien language for the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens! In 2016, she created another alien language for the film Star Trek Beyond, where she also had a small voice role as an alien named Kalara.

In 2016, Sara was a judge on Talent Suomi, which is the Finnish version of Got Talent. She also co-hosted a new Finnish game show called Kaikki vastaan 1 ("Everyone Against 1") in 2017. In the same year, she started hosting Remotely Funny, a British game show on CBBC.

In 2018, Sara continued to appear on Finnish TV. She was on a contest called Pallon ympäri ("Around The Globe"), where she traveled the world doing different tasks. She also co-hosted Kaikki vastaan 1 again.
