Sarah Qureshi is a brilliant Pakistani engineer. She is an expert in aerospace engineering, which is about designing and building aircraft and spacecraft. Sarah is also known for inventing a special jet engine and enjoys flying planes as a hobby pilot. She earned her highest degree, a PhD, in Aerospace Propulsion Engineering from Cranfield University in the UK. Sarah is also the co-founder and CEO of a company called Aero Engine Craft.

Early Life and Education

Sarah Qureshi was born in Islamabad, Pakistan. She grew up in a family that loved science. From a very young age, Sarah was fascinated by aviation, which is all about flying. Her father worked in the aviation industry, and he inspired her. She often helped him with engines and machines. This sparked her lifelong interest in engineering.

Sarah earned her first degree in mechanical engineering from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) in Pakistan. After that, she went to Cranfield University in the UK. There, she earned a master’s degree in aerospace dynamics. She then completed her PhD in aerospace propulsion. While studying at NUST, Sarah also followed her passion for flying. She earned a private pilot's license. She continued her flight training while at Cranfield.

Sarah's Amazing Career

Sarah Qureshi started her career working in Pakistan's automotive industry. This industry makes cars and other vehicles. Her early research involved designing systems for UAVs, which are drones. She worked on how these drones could follow a path and control their height. During her PhD studies, Sarah also helped supervise other students. They were working on their own research projects about jet engine technology.

Sarah and her father, Masood Latif Qureshi, started a company called Aero Engine Craft. Her father is a well-known Physicist and scientist. Their goal was to create new, environment-friendly engines for airplanes. Sarah designed a special aero-engine that helps fight global warming. This engine is designed to be "contrail-free." Contrails are the white lines you sometimes see behind airplanes in the sky.

How Her Engine Works

Sarah's engine design has a unique system. It uses pressure to cool the water vapor in the airplane's exhaust. This cooled water stays on the airplane. It can then be released as rain when needed. Sarah explained, "We built an engine and then added the condensation system to it. This turned it into a contrail-free aero-engine." She also mentioned that this new engine would be tested on an actual aircraft soon.

Sarah began developing this special technology in 2018. It was part of her research for her PhD studies at Cranfield. She continues to work with her professor on this project.

Sarah shared that her project has received two international patents. A patent protects an invention, meaning no one else can copy it without permission. She believes it will take at least six more years before the engine is ready for sale. She also noted that this is the first time a private company in Pakistan has taken such an environment-friendly step. This invention will show the world Pakistan's efforts in fighting global warming. Sarah is confident that her invention will greatly change the aviation industry.

Awards and Recognition

In 2023, Sarah Qureshi won the Study UK Alumni Awards in Pakistan. She received this award for her work in science and sustainability. In 2024, the President of Pakistan announced a special honor for Sarah. She was awarded the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz. This is Pakistan's fourth-highest civil honor. It was given to her to recognize her excellent work in science.
