Satsop is a small community in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is a place that the government counts for population, but it is not an official city or town.

Where is Satsop Located?

Satsop is found in the southeastern part of Grays Harbor County. It sits right next to the Satsop River. The community is about 13 meters (43 feet) above sea level.

You can reach Satsop using U.S. Route 12. This road runs along the southern side of the community. From Satsop, it's about 16 miles west to Aberdeen. If you go southeast for about 30 miles, you will reach Grand Mound. The capital city, Olympia, is about 33 miles to the east. You can get there using Washington State Route 8.

The total area of Satsop is about 18.2 square kilometers (7.0 square miles). All of this area is land.

What are Satsop's Landmarks?

Satsop is famous for an unfinished nuclear power plant. This plant was meant to have two large power reactors. Building the plant started in 1977. However, it stopped in 1983 because they ran out of money. The plant was about 75% finished.

The plant has two very tall cooling towers. These towers are a well-known sight in the area. They stand out and are easy to spot.

Satsop is also located just east of the Satsop River. Both the community and the river got their names from a local Native American tribe.
