Schönenbuch (Swiss German: Schönebuech) is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Arlesheim area. It is located in the canton of Basel-Landschaft in Switzerland.

History of Schönenbuch
Schönenbuch was first written about in the year 1315. Back then, its name was Schoenenbuoch. It became its own independent town in 1816.
Geography and Location
Schönenbuch covers an area of about 1.36 square kilometers (0.52 square miles). A large part of this land, about 65%, is used for farming. Only a small amount, about 1.5%, is covered by forests. The remaining 31% of the land has buildings and roads.
The town is located in the Arlesheim district. It sits on the edge of a region called the Sundgau. What's interesting is that Schönenbuch is surrounded by France on three sides! It is about 355 meters (1,165 feet) above sea level. This makes it the second smallest town in the Basel-Country canton. The only connection Schönenbuch has to another Swiss town is to Allschwil in the northeast.
Schönenbuch is a haufendorf village. This means it's an old, unplanned village with buildings packed closely together around a central area.
