Schroeder is a small community in Cook County, Minnesota, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town.
This community is located right on the North Shore of Lake Superior, which is a very large freshwater lake. The Cross River flows through the middle of Schroeder, adding to its natural beauty.
Schroeder is about 30 miles southwest of Grand Marais and 53 miles northeast of Two Harbors. Minnesota Highway 61 is the main road that runs through the community.
You can find some cool outdoor spots nearby, like Temperance River State Park and parts of the Superior Hiking Trail. These places are great for exploring nature.
A Look Back at Schroeder's History

The community of Schroeder got its name from a man named John Schroeder. He was a very important person in the lumber business back in the day. He owned a company that cut down trees for wood.
Near the town, you can still see the Schroeder Lumber Company Bunkhouse. This old building is special because it's the last remaining part of a logging camp. That camp was active from 1895 to 1905, a long time ago! It's even listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
There's also an interesting story about the mouth of the Cross River. In 1846, a person named Frederic Baraga was in a boat during a big storm. He safely landed ashore right at this spot. To show his thanks, he left a cross there. Today, a granite cross stands in its place.
