Sergei Aleinikov is a famous former footballer and coach from Belarus. He was born on November 7, 1961. Sergei was known for being a strong defensive midfielder. This means he played in the middle of the field, helping to protect his team's goal. He was good at running a lot, thinking smartly, and passing the ball well. Sometimes, he also played in defense as a sweeper or centre-back.

In 2024, Sergei Aleinikov became a sporting director for PFC Lokomotiv Plovdiv, a football club.

Playing Football: Sergei's Career

Sergei Aleinikov was born in Minsk, which is now the capital of Belarus. He played for the Soviet Union national football team many times, from 1984 to 1991. He played in 73 games and scored six goals for them.

Playing for His Country

One of his biggest achievements with the Soviet Union team was reaching the final of the European Championship in 1988. They played against the Netherlands but lost 0–2. After the Soviet Union broke up, he also played for the CIS team in 1992. Later, he played four games for the Belarus team after Belarus became an independent country. His last game for Belarus was in 1994.

Playing for Clubs

Sergei started his club career with Dinamo Minsk in 1981. The very next year, in 1982, his team won the USSR championship. This was a big win for them!

In 1989, Sergei moved to Italy to play for Juventus FC, one of the biggest football clubs in the world. With Juventus, he won two important trophies in 1990: the UEFA Cup and the Coppa Italia. After Juventus, he played for U.S. Lecce from 1990 to 1992.

In 1992, Sergei moved to Japan to play for Gamba Osaka. He played there for several years. He finished his playing career in 1996 with a Swedish team called IK Oddevold.

Special Recognition

In November 2003, Sergei Aleinikov received a special award. UEFA, the organization that runs European football, chose him as the "Golden Player" for Belarus. This award celebrated him as the most outstanding player from Belarus in the past 50 years. It was a huge honor!

Coaching Football: Sergei's Work

After his playing career, Sergei Aleinikov became a football coach. He has coached several teams, helping young players and professional teams.
