Shammond Omar Williams, born on April 5, 1975, is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He also became a citizen of Georgia (the country). Shammond played as both a point guard and a shooting guard. He had a long career playing basketball in the NBA in America and for many teams in Europe. Today, he is an assistant coach for the Denver Pioneers men's basketball team.

Playing College Basketball
Shammond Williams went to Fork Union Military Academy before playing college basketball at the University of North Carolina. He played under famous coaches Dean Smith and later Bill Guthridge.
Key College Seasons
During the 1997–1998 season, which was his last year in college, Shammond was part of a special group of players. Coach Guthridge called them the "Six Starters." This group included future NBA stars like Antawn Jamison and Vince Carter.
That season, Shammond scored about 16.7 points and made 4.2 assists per game. An assist is when you pass the ball to a teammate who then scores. Over his whole college career, he averaged 10.7 points and 3.0 assists per game.

When Shammond Williams finished college at North Carolina, he held several impressive school records:

Playing Professional Basketball
Shammond Williams was chosen in the 1998 NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls picked him as the 34th player overall in the second round. Even though he was drafted by the Bulls, he never played for them.

Playing Overseas in Europe
After his time in the NBA, Shammond played basketball in Europe. He played for Unics Kazan in Russia, where he also became a citizen of Georgia. He also played for Winterthur FC Barcelona in Spain.
He even played for the national team of Georgia. In 2005, he was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the EuroChallenge All-Star Game.
Later Career Moves
On July 12, 2006, Shammond signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. After playing one season with the Lakers, he went back to Europe. He signed with Pamesa Valencia for three seasons.
Before the 2009–2010 season started, Pamesa Valencia let Williams go. He then trained by himself in the United States. On November 9, 2009, Shammond returned to Spain and signed with Unicaja Málaga.
In January 2011, he signed with Apollon Limassol BC in Cyprus. After finishing that season, he signed with Sutor Basket Montegranaro in Italy.
Coaching Career
After his playing career, Shammond Williams started coaching. In the 2011–12 season, he spent time at North Carolina's men's basketball practices. He was also a counselor at special Nike basketball camps for young, talented players.
Assistant Coach Roles
On June 21, 2012, Shammond became an assistant coach for the Furman Paladins. In 2013, he moved to the Tulane Green Wave, where he coached for three years. After that, he spent one year coaching at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.
On September 15, 2021, Williams returned to coaching. He accepted a job as an assistant coach for the Old Dominion Monarchs women's basketball team. Most recently, on July 2, 2024, Williams was hired as an assistant coach for the Denver Pioneers.
Personal Life and Family
Shammond Williams has some famous relatives in the basketball world. He is a cousin of Kevin Garnett, a well-known former NBA player for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He is also a cousin of Louis McCullough, who played professional basketball overseas.
Shammond is a member of the Psi Delta chapter of Omega Psi Phi, a fraternity. He is also the godfather to current NBA player Mitchell Robinson.
