Sharon Helga Corr (born on March 24, 1970) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She is also known as a television personality. Sharon is famous for being a member of the pop-rock band The Corrs. She started the band in 1990 with her older brother Jim and younger sisters Caroline and Andrea.

Sharon plays the violin, piano, and guitar. She also sings backing vocals for the band. She began learning the violin when she was just six years old. She has played in national youth orchestras and is qualified to teach the violin.

In 2005, Sharon and her siblings received an honorary MBE from Queen Elizabeth II. This award recognized their musical talent and their charity work. They helped raise money for the Freeman Hospital, victims of the Omagh Bombing, and other good causes. On March 22, 2019, Sharon received an honorary doctorate from the Open University. This was for her amazing contributions to education and culture.

In 2012, Sharon became one of the coaches on the first season of the RTÉ talent show The Voice of Ireland.

Starting a Solo Career

In July 2009, Sharon was voted first in the Ms Twitter UK competition. Soon after, she announced her plans for a solo music career. Her first solo song, "It's Not a Dream", was released in August 2009. She performed at big music events like Isle of Wight and Glastonbury.

Her first solo album, Dream of You, came out on September 13, 2010. This album featured many songs she wrote herself, along with some cover songs. Sharon played the violin throughout the album. She toured the UK, Europe, and Australia in 2011 and 2012 to support the album. During her tour, she introduced a new song called "Edge of Nowhere."

The Voice of Ireland and New Albums

Sharon was a coach on The Voice of Ireland for its first two seasons. This TV show helped new singers find their talent.

She started working on her second solo album in 2012. This album was named The Same Sun and was released on August 21, 2013. The main song from the album, "Take a Minute," became popular in Ireland and France. Sharon also went on The Same Sun Tour in late 2013 and early 2014. She performed in countries like the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, and the United States.

In 2015, The Corrs band reunited and released a new album called White Light. They followed this with another album, Jupiter Calling, in 2017.

Sharon released her third solo album, The Fool and the Scorpion, on September 24, 2021. She promoted this album with shows in Madrid, Spain. In 2022, she toured the UK, supporting the famous musician Jeff Beck.

Sharon's Personal Life

In 2001, Sharon married Robert Gavin Bonnar, a lawyer from Belfast. They got married in Cratloe Church in County Clare, Ireland. Sharon shared that she walked down the aisle to "Along with the Girls," a traditional song from The Corrs' first album. She met Robert when she was filming the music video for the song "Runaway".

Sharon and Robert had two children: a son named Cathal, born on March 31, 2006, and a daughter named Flori, born on July 18, 2007. The couple later divorced in 2019. After having her children, Sharon faced challenges with social anxiety disorder. She wrote about her experiences with anxiety on her solo album.

Other Music Projects

Besides her work with The Corrs, Sharon has recorded other songs. She sang "No Frontiers" with her sister Caroline Corr. She also sang "Dimming of the Day" and a demo version of "Goodbye."

In 1999, she played violin for the song "Rendez-vous à Paris" by Jean-Michel Jarre. This song was released on his album Métamorphoses in 2000. Sharon also recorded two songs in 2008 with the Welsh opera singer Bryn Terfel. In 2009, she recorded "Amarrado a Ti" with the Spanish singer Alex Ubago. She has also made guest appearances on songs by other artists, including Damien Leith, Patrick Kavanagh, and The High Kings.
