Sharon Helga Corr (born 24 March 1970) is an Irish singer, songwriter, and musician. She is famous for being a member of the pop-rock band The Corrs. She started the band in 1990 with her older brother Jim and younger sisters Caroline and Andrea. Sharon plays the violin, piano, and guitar. She also sings backing vocals for the band. She began learning the violin when she was six years old. She has played in national youth orchestras and can teach the violin.

In 2005, Sharon and her siblings were given a special award called an MBE by Queen Elizabeth II. This was to thank them for their amazing music and for their charity work. They helped raise money for hospitals and for people affected by a tragic event. In 2019, Sharon received an honorary doctorate from the Open University. This award recognized her great contributions to education and culture.

In 2012, Sharon became a coach on The Voice of Ireland. This was a popular TV show where people competed to become the best singer.

Sharon's Music Career

Early Solo Work: Dream of You (2009–2012)

In July 2009, Sharon Corr won first place in a fun online competition called Ms Twitter UK.

Later that year, Sharon announced she would release her first solo music. Her first song, "It's Not a Dream", came out in August 2009. She also performed at big music events like the Isle of Wight and Glastonbury festivals. Her first solo album, Dream of You, was released in September 2010. On this album, Sharon played the violin on all the songs. She wrote many of the songs herself and also covered some of her favorite tunes. Other musicians who often played with The Corrs joined her on the album.

Sharon went on a tour called the Dream of You Tour starting in August 2011. She played concerts across the UK, Europe, and Australia. During this tour, she introduced a new song called "Edge of Nowhere." This song would later be on her second album.

TV and New Albums: The Same Sun and The Fool and the Scorpion (2012–Present)

Sharon was a coach on the first two seasons of the TV talent show The Voice of Ireland. She helped new singers develop their skills.

In 2012, Sharon started working on her second solo album. She finished writing the songs in March 2012. The album was eventually named The Same Sun and was released in August 2013. The main song from the album, "Take a Minute," became popular in Ireland and France. Sharon also went on The Same Sun Tour in late 2013 and early 2014. She performed in many countries, including the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, Indonesia, and the United States.

In 2015, The Corrs band got back together. They released a new album called White Light. Two years later, in 2017, they released another album called Jupiter Calling.

Sharon released her third solo album, The Fool and the Scorpion, in September 2021. To promote the album, she started performing concerts in Madrid, Spain. In 2022, she also toured the UK, supporting the famous musician Jeff Beck.

Sharon's Personal Life

In 2001, Sharon married Robert Gavin Bonnar, who is a lawyer. They got married in a church in Ireland. Sharon has shared that she walked down the aisle to a traditional song from The Corrs' first album. She met Robert when she was filming a music video for the song "Runaway."

Sharon and Robert have two children. Their son, Cathal, was born in March 2006. Their daughter, Flori, was born in July 2007. The couple separated in October 2019. After having her children, Sharon talked about dealing with social anxiety. She even wrote about her feelings on one of her solo albums.

Other Music Projects

Besides her work with The Corrs, Sharon has recorded music with other artists. She sang "Dimming of the Day" and a demo version of "Goodbye." In 1999, she played the violin for a song by Jean Michel Jarre called "Rendez-vous à Paris."

She also recorded two songs in 2008 with the Welsh opera singer Bryn Terfel. In 2009, she sang "Amarrado a Ti" with the Spanish singer Alex Ubago.
