Shayne Thomas Ward (born on 16 October 1984) is an English singer and actor. He became famous after winning the second season of The X Factor.
His first song, "That's My Goal", came out in the UK on 21 December 2005. It quickly became number one on the UK singles chart and was the Christmas number one song that year. It sold over 313,000 copies on its first day. This made it one of the fastest-selling singles ever in the UK at that time.
Shayne Ward was the first X Factor winner to release a brand new song as his winning single. As the winner, he received a music contract with Simon Cowell's Syco record label. His first album, called Shayne Ward, was released in April 2006. It went straight to number one in both Ireland and the UK. The album included hit songs like "No Promises" and "Stand by Me".
His next album, Breathless, came out in November 2007. It featured top 10 hits such as "If That's OK with You" and "No U Hang Up". This album also reached number one in Ireland.
In November 2010, after a break, Ward released his third album, Obsession. In 2011, he left Syco. In 2015, he released a new album called Closer. He funded this album himself through PledgeMusic.
In 2015, Shayne Ward started acting in the TV show Coronation Street. He played the character Aidan Connor. He left the show in August 2018. In 2023, he began appearing in The Good Ship Murder.

Early Life and Beginnings
Shayne Ward was born on 16 October 1984 in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. He went to St. Peter’s RC High School in Manchester. Before The X Factor, Shayne was part of a band called Destiny. They performed at pubs, clubs, and weddings. In 2002, he made it to the final stages of another TV show called Popstars: The Rivals.

2005-2008: The X Factor and First Albums
In early 2005, Shayne Ward tried out for the second season of The X Factor. He sang for judges Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh. All three judges were impressed, and he moved on to the next round.
Louis Walsh became his mentor for the show. Ward was chosen to be one of Walsh's top four singers for the live shows. He quickly became a favorite to win. In the grand final, he beat Journey South and Andy Abraham to become the winner. He was never in the bottom two during the competition. He won by a small margin of votes from the public. After winning, Louis Walsh also became his manager.

After winning The X Factor, Ward signed a contract with Syco Music. His first song, "That's My Goal", was released on 21 December 2005. It sold 742,000 copies in its first week and became the Christmas number one song of 2005. It stayed at number one for four weeks. This song has sold over 1.3 million copies in the UK. Ward also won an Ivor Novello Award for it.
His second song, "No Promises", came out on 10 April 2006. It reached number two in the UK. Shayne Ward's first album, Shayne Ward, was released on 17 April 2006. It sold over 200,000 copies in its first week and went straight to number one. The album has sold over 520,000 copies in the UK and 2 million worldwide. It was certified platinum. His third song was "Stand by Me".
In August 2006, it was reported that Ward had a vocal cord issue. He went to Los Angeles for treatment, which was successful. In November 2006, he released his autobiography called My Story. In early 2007, Ward went on his first solo tour across the UK and Ireland.
Ward's fourth song, "If That's OK with You", was released as a double A-side with "No U Hang Up" on 24 September 2007. It reached number two in the UK. His second album, Breathless, was released on 26 November 2007. It sold over 95,000 copies in its first week and debuted at number two in the UK. In Ireland, the album debuted at number one and was certified five times platinum. The second song from this album was "Breathless", which came out on 19 November 2007. It reached number six in the UK. In May 2008, Ward went on his second UK tour, called The Breathless Tour 2008.
2009-2015: New Music and Stage Roles
Ward started working on his third album in 2009. The album, named Obsession, was released on 15 November 2010. The first song from the album was a cover of Nickelback's "Gotta Be Somebody". Ward's version was released on 7 November 2010 and reached number 12 in the UK. The album reached number 11 in Ireland and number 15 in the UK.
On 9 June 2011, it was announced that Ward would star as Stacee Jaxx in the musical Rock of Ages in London. He was nominated for an award for this role. In February 2014, Ward released a song called "Falling Slowly" with Louise Dearman. In 2014, Ward joined the cast of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds for its final tour.
On 19 September 2014, Ward announced he was working on a new album with Mike Stock. The album, Closer, was released in April 2015 and reached number 17 in the UK albums chart. It included two more songs: "The Way You Were" and "Moving Target".
2015-Present: Coronation Street and Recent Projects
On 12 May 2015, ITV announced that Shayne Ward would join Coronation Street. He played Aidan Connor, a distant cousin of Michelle. He first appeared on screen in August 2015. For his acting, he won the 2016 National Television Award and the 2016 Inside Soap Award for Best Newcomer. He continued in the role for two more years.
In early 2018, Ward announced he was leaving the show. His last appearance as Aidan Connor was on 7 May 2018. .....
After leaving Coronation Street, he was cast in a film called The Ascent, also known as Black Ops in the US.
In November 2022, it was announced that Ward would release a collection of his music called Anthology. It came out on 9 December 2022. Ward also shared that he was working on a new album with a country pop style.
In 2023, he began appearing in the TV show The Good Ship Murder. From 14 September 2024, Ward was a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, partnering with Nancy Xu. He was eliminated from the competition on 10 November 2024.
Personal Life
Shayne Ward was engaged to actress Faye McKeever from 2012 to 2014.
On 2 August 2016, Ward announced that he and his partner, actress Sophie Austin, were expecting their first child. Their daughter was born on 3 December 2016. In December 2017, Ward announced his engagement to Austin. Their second child, a boy, was born on 11 June 2022.
