Shayne Thomas Ward (born 16 October 1984) is an English singer and actor. He became famous after winning the second series of The X Factor in 2005.
His first song, "That's My Goal", was released in the UK in December 2005. It quickly became number one on the UK Singles Chart and was the Christmas number one song that year. It sold many copies very quickly, becoming one of the fastest-selling singles in UK history at the time.
Shayne Ward was the first X Factor winner to release a brand new song as his winning single. As the winner, he received a recording contract with Simon Cowell's Syco record label. His first album, Shayne Ward, came out in April 2006. It reached number one in both Ireland and the UK. This album included popular songs like "No Promises" and "Stand by Me".
His next album, Breathless, was released in November 2007. It featured top 10 hits such as "If That's OK with You" and "No U Hang Up". This album also topped the charts in Ireland.
After a break, Ward released his third album, Obsession, in November 2010. In 2011, he left Syco record label. In 2015, he released a new album called Closer as an independent artist.
In 2015, Shayne Ward started acting in the popular TV show Coronation Street. He played the character Aidan Connor until August 2018. In 2023, he also began appearing in The Good Ship Murder.

Early Life and Beginnings
Shayne Ward was born on 16 October 1984 in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. He went to St. Peter’s RC High School in Manchester. Before The X Factor, Shayne was part of a band called Destiny. They performed at pubs, clubs, and weddings. In 2002, he made it to the final stages of another TV show called Popstars: The Rivals.

Becoming an X Factor Star (2005)
In early 2005, Shayne Ward tried out for the second series of The X Factor. He impressed all the judges: Simon Cowell, Sharon Osbourne, and Louis Walsh. Louis Walsh became his mentor for the show. Shayne quickly became a favorite to win.
He reached the grand final and won against other contestants, Journey South and Andy Abraham. Shayne never faced elimination during the competition. He won by a small margin of votes from the public. After winning, Louis Walsh also became his manager.

First Albums and Tours (2005–2008)
After winning The X Factor, Shayne Ward signed a contract with Syco Music. His first single, "That's My Goal", was released in December 2005. It sold many copies in its first week and became the Christmas number one song of 2005. It stayed at number one for four weeks. This song has sold over 1.3 million copies in the UK. Shayne also won an Ivor Novello Award for being the Best Selling Single.
His second single, "No Promises", came out in April 2006 and reached number two in the UK. His first album, Shayne Ward, was released in April 2006. It sold well and reached number one on the album charts. The album has sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Shayne's third single was "Stand by Me".
In 2007, Shayne went on his first solo tour across the UK and Ireland. He performed eighteen concerts in less than a month. After his tour, his fourth single, "If That's OK with You", was released as a double A-side with "No U Hang Up". It reached number two in the UK. His second album, Breathless, came out in November 2007. It debuted at number two in the UK and number one in Ireland. The second single from this album was "Breathless". In May 2008, Shayne went on another UK tour called The Breathless Tour. He also performed as a support act for Westlife's 2008 tour in Ireland.
Later Music and Stage Roles (2009–2015)
Shayne Ward started working on his third album in 2009. This album, called Obsession, was released in November 2010. The first single from the album was a cover of Nickelback's song, "Gotta Be Somebody". Ward's version reached number 12 in the UK. The album itself reached number 15 in the UK.
In June 2011, it was announced that Shayne would star in the 1980s musical Rock of Ages in London. He played the role of Stacee Jaxx. For this role, he was nominated for a London Newcomer of the Year award. In 2014, Shayne joined the cast of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of the Worlds for its final tour.
In September 2014, Shayne announced he was working on a new album. This album, Closer, was released in April 2015. It reached number 17 in the UK album charts.
Acting Career
Coronation Street (2015–2018)
In May 2015, the TV channel ITV announced that Shayne Ward would join the cast of Coronation Street. He played the character Aidan Connor. His first appearance was in August 2015. For his acting, he won the 2016 National Television Award and the 2016 Inside Soap Award for Best Newcomer. His contract was extended because his character was very popular.
In early 2018, Shayne announced he would be leaving the show. His character's storyline gained a lot of attention. After leaving the show, he was cast in a psychological drama film called The Ascent, also known as Black Ops.
Recent TV Roles (2023-Present)
In November 2022, it was announced that Shayne Ward would release a collection of his music called Anthology. He also shared that he was working on a new studio album with a country pop style. In 2023, he began appearing in the TV series The Good Ship Murder.
In September 2024, Ward joined series 22 of Strictly Come Dancing. He partnered with Nancy Xu. He was eliminated from the competition in November 2024.
Personal Life
From 2012 to 2014, Shayne Ward was engaged to actress Faye McKeever.
In August 2016, Shayne announced that he and his partner, actress Sophie Austin, were expecting their first child. Their daughter was born in December 2016. In December 2017, Shayne and Sophie got engaged. In June 2022, they welcomed their second child, a boy.
