Sigel is a small town located in Chippewa County, in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. In 2010, the town had a population of 1,044 people. This was an increase from the 825 people who lived there in 2000.

History of Sigel, Wisconsin
How Was Sigel First Explored?
The land that is now Sigel was first explored in the fall of 1848. Surveying teams from the U.S. government carefully measured the area. In September 1849, another team marked all the important corners of the eastern part of Sigel. They walked through forests and swamps, using special tools to measure the land.
After their work, the surveyor described the area. He said the land was mostly flat and had good, rich soil. Many small streams flowed through the area, but none were big enough for water power. The town had many trees like Birch, Ash, Elm, Lind, Sugar Maple, Oak, Ironwood, and some Eastern White Pine.
When Was Sigel Founded?
The town of Sigel was officially started on January 3, 1863. It is believed to be named after Franz Sigel. He was a colonel who fought for the Union Army during the American Civil War.

Where is Sigel Located?
Sigel is in the southern part of Chippewa County. To the east, it shares a border with the Town of Edson. To the south, it borders Eau Claire County.
The Yellow River forms the northern border of Sigel. The village of Cadott is also to the north. The Yellow River flows west and eventually joins the Chippewa River.
