Simon Lucas Baker (born on July 30, 1969) is an Australian actor and director. He is famous for playing Patrick Jane in the TV show The Mentalist. For this role, he was nominated for a top acting award, the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

Early Life and Childhood
Simon Baker was born in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. His father was a mechanic, and his mother was a high school English teacher. When Simon was nine months old, his family moved to New Guinea.
Simon spent some of his childhood in Sydney. But he mostly grew up in a coastal town called Lennox Head, New South Wales. He went to Ballina High School and Trinity Catholic College. Simon has loved surfing since he was young. He believes surfing and his friends from surfing were a very important part of growing up.
Simon Baker's Acting Career
Simon Baker's first acting job was in a TV commercial. He got the role by chance while waiting for a friend's audition. Before moving to Hollywood, he acted in Australian TV shows. These included E Street, Home and Away, and Heartbreak High. In 1993, he won a Logie Award for Most Popular New Talent. This award is for new, popular TV stars in Australia.

In the mid-1990s, Simon moved to the United States. In 1997, he appeared in the movie L.A. Confidential.
He is well-known for his roles as Patrick Jane in The Mentalist and Nick Fallin in The Guardian. In movies, he has played Max Rourke in The Ring Two, Riley Denbo in Land of the Dead, and Christian Thompson in The Devil Wears Prada.
Simon Baker also became a director. His first movie as a director was Breath in 2017. He also acted in, co-wrote, and co-produced this film. It was based on a Tim Winton novel.
Awards and Recognition
In June 2012, Simon Baker was invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This is the group that gives out the Oscars.
On February 14, 2013, Simon Baker received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This is a special honour for people who have made a big impact in entertainment. His star is located at 6352 Hollywood Boulevard.
Simon Baker's Family Life
On October 2, 1998, Simon Baker married Australian actress Rebecca Rigg. They had been together for five years before getting married. They have a daughter, Stella, and two sons.
