Simon Lynge (born 22 January 1980) is a talented singer and songwriter. He grew up in both Greenland and Denmark.

Simon Lynge is special because he was the first solo music artist from Greenland to release an album across the United Kingdom. He was also the first Greenlander to perform at the famous Glastonbury Festival in the UK. Simon has played many concerts in Europe and the United States. In 2011, he even joined American singer Emmylou Harris on her European tour as a supporting act.

His first album, The Future, came out in 2010. It quickly became number one on the Amazon UK Rock Charts the week it was released. People who write about music have compared Simon's style to famous artists like Paul Simon, James Taylor, The Beach Boys, and The Beatles. Since 2008, Simon Lynge has lived in Jefferson County, Washington, in the USA.

Simon Lynge's Early Life

Simon Overgaard Lynge was born in Holstebro, Denmark. However, he spent most of his childhood growing up in Qaqortoq, Greenland. His father was a performer in plays and also played the accordion with another Greenlandic musician, Rasmus Lyberth.

Simon has shared that he did not attend a regular school when he was a child. Instead, he worked as a shepherd and a hunter. He lived in a small village with fewer than 40 people. This village was about an hour's boat ride from the nearest town.

As a teenager, Simon worked delivering groceries for a supermarket in Qaqortoq. Soon after, he moved back to Denmark. There, he enrolled in the Holstebro Music School. He studied opera, piano, drums, and music theory. While in Denmark, he became part of the exciting young music scene in Copenhagen. He performed his own songs as a singer and guitarist at various places. During this time, he also traveled to London, Nashville, and Los Angeles to perform and write his music.

Releasing The Future

In 2008, Simon Lynge performed at a music venue called Highland Grounds in Hollywood. He greatly impressed Matt Forger, a music producer who had worked on Michael Jackson's famous Thriller album. Matt Forger suggested that Simon record his songs.

Soon after, Simon began many recording sessions at Bright Orange Studios in Los Angeles. These sessions led to his first album, The Future. Matt Forger and Jon Mattox worked together as co-producers on the album.

The album was released in 2010 by Lo-Max Records, an independent record label based in London. The Future created a lot of excitement in the media. Simon appeared on BBC television and Sky News in the UK. He also appeared on Swedish television and was featured in newspapers across Europe. The album was nominated for an Independent Music Award in 2010. It has been released in many countries, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK.

When Simon Lynge performs live, he often plays with Richard Lobb. Richard is a multi-instrumentalist, meaning he plays many different instruments. They wrote the song "London Town" together for Simon's first album. Simon also performs with his band, Simon Lynge & The Martial Hearts. For his bigger concerts, Simon has even performed with a full string section, which includes violins and cellos.

Simon Lynge's International Reach

Simon Lynge spent much of 2010 touring across Europe. He also accepted an invitation to perform at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah, USA. In July 2010, he was the main performer at the music festival in Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen. He played for a huge audience of more than 25,000 people.

His song "The Future" was used in a 2009 advertisement for Hotel Arctic in Ilulissat, Greenland. This hotel is the world's most northern four-star hotel. The advertisement won a Gold award at the 2010 Golden City Gate competition in Berlin. Simon Lynge's songs have also been featured on US television shows. These include Lie to Me and Brothers & Sisters.
