Skedee's Past: A Brief History
Skedee was first known as "Lemert." This name came from the Lemert family, who owned land in the area. In 1902, when a post office opened, the town was renamed "Skedee." This new name honored the Skidi Pawnee people.
Between 1900 and 1904, the Eastern Oklahoma Railway built a train line through Skedee. Steam engines would stop at Crystal Creek to get water. A cotton gin (a machine that separates cotton fibers) and a grain elevator (a building for storing grain) were also built.
Sadly, a big flood in 1957 destroyed the train line. The Skedee post office later closed its doors in 1963. Today, Skedee is a commuter town. Many residents travel to nearby cities like Stillwater and Pawnee for work.
