Skye Edwards (born Shirley Klaris Yonavieve Edwards; 27 May 1972), also known simply as Skye, is a British singer. She started her music journey in the mid-1990s. She became famous as the lead singer of the band Morcheeba.

Morcheeba released five albums with Skye as their main singer. In 2003, Skye left the band and started her solo career. She released two albums on her own. In 2010, she returned to Morcheeba. Since then, she has released more solo albums while also singing with the band.

Skye decided to shorten her name for her music career. She took the first letter of each of her names to create "Skye." She is married to bass player Steve Gordon. They have four children together. Skye has also sung for charity events. These include "Perfect Day" in 1997 for Children in Need. She also joined Band Aid 20 in 2004 to help with famine relief in Sudan, Africa.

Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Skye Edwards was born in London, England. Her family was British Jamaican. She grew up in the East End of London. Skye often says her childhood was more about "fish and chips" than "rice and peas." This means her family had a British way of life.

Her first musical inspirations came from her mother's country and western records. These early sounds helped shape her love for music.

Skye Edwards' Solo Music Career

After her first time with Morcheeba, Skye began making her own music. She released several albums as a solo artist.

Mind How You Go Album

Skye's first solo album was called Mind How You Go. It came out on 27 February 2006 in Europe. Patrick Leonard helped produce the album.

The first song released from the album was "Love Show." It became very popular on the radio across Europe. The next song was "What's Wrong With Me." Music videos were made for both songs. Skye said that this album was truly a part of her.

Keeping Secrets Album

In October 2009, Skye released her second album, Keeping Secrets. She released it independently. This means she put it out through her own music label, Skyewards Recordings. Alexis Smith and Ivor Guest produced this album.

A song called "I Believe" was released from this album. It also had a music video. Skye then went on a tour for several weeks around Europe.

Back to Now Album

Skye's third solo album, Back to Now, was released on 29 October 2012. Steve Fitzmaurice produced this album. He is a well-known Irish record producer. He has also worked with famous bands like Depeche Mode and U2.

Skye Edwards' Cover Songs

Skye Edwards has also sung many cover songs. These are songs originally sung by other artists. She brings her unique voice to them.

In 2007, Skye sang the Gorillaz song "Feel Good Inc." live on KCRW radio. She also performed it at some of her concerts.

In 2008, Skye worked with Marc Collin. He is from the French group Nouvelle Vague. They created an album called Hollywood, Mon Amour. This album featured popular songs from 1980s movies. Skye sang several songs on this album. These included Blondie's "Call Me". She also sang "A View to a Kill" from the James Bond film of the same name.

As a Christmas gift, Skye recorded a version of "River" by Joni Mitchell. She shared it on YouTube in November 2011. In 2011, she also sang "Solid Air" for a tribute album to John Martyn. The song was from Martyn's 1973 album Solid Air.

In February 2013, Skye performed "As Long as You Love Me" by Justin Bieber on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic show. She also sang on an album called Uncovered: QOTSA. This album featured female singers covering Queens of the Stone Age songs. It was released in June 2013.

In 2020, Skye sang the Yazz song "The Only Way Is Up". This was for an album called Goodnight Songs for Rebel Girls. Many other female singers were on this album too. These included Ani DiFranco, Macy Gray, Alicia Keys, Carole King, and Anastacia.
