Skye Edwards (born Shirley Klaris Yonavieve Edwards on May 27, 1972), often known simply as Skye, is a talented British singer. She became famous in the mid-1990s as the lead singer of the band Morcheeba. With Morcheeba, she released five albums.

In 2003, Skye left Morcheeba and started her solo career. She released two albums: Mind How You Go in 2006 and Keeping Secrets in 2009. Skye returned to Morcheeba in 2010. She has also released more solo albums, including Back to Now in 2012 and In a Low Light in 2015.

Skye chose her stage name by taking the first letter of each of her birth names (Shirley Klaris Yonavieve Edwards) to form "Skye." She is married to bass player Steve Gordon, and they have four children. Skye has also used her voice to help others. She sang on charity songs like "Perfect Day" in 1997 for Children in Need and Band Aid 20 in 2004 to help with famine relief in Sudan, Africa.

Skye Edwards was born in London, England, into a British Jamaican family. She grew up in the East End of London. Skye has shared that her childhood was more about "fish and chips" than traditional Jamaican "rice and peas." Her first musical inspirations came from the country and western records her mother listened to.

Solo Albums by Skye Edwards

Mind How You Go

Skye's first solo album, Mind How You Go, came out on February 27, 2006, in Europe. It was produced by Patrick Leonard. The first song from the album, "Love Show," became very popular on the radio across Europe. Another song, "What's Wrong With Me," was also released. Music videos were made for both songs. Skye has said that this album is a big part of who she is.

Keeping Secrets

In October 2009, Skye Edwards released her second album, Keeping Secrets. She released it herself through her own music label, Skyewards Recordings. This album was produced by Alexis Smith and Ivor Guest. A song called "I Believe" was released with a music video. Skye also went on a tour around Europe to share her new music.

Back to Now

Her third solo album, Back to Now, was released on October 29, 2012. It was produced by Steve Fitzmaurice, a well-known Irish record producer who has worked with bands like Depeche Mode and U2.

Skye's Cover Songs

Skye Edwards has performed many cover songs, putting her own spin on popular tunes.

  • In 2007, she sang the Gorillaz song "Feel Good Inc." live on KCRW radio. She also performed it at some of her concerts.
  • In 2008, Skye worked with Marc Collin from the French group Nouvelle Vague. They created an album called Hollywood, Mon Amour, which featured popular songs from 1980s movies. Skye sang several songs on this album, including Blondie's "Call Me" and Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill" from the James Bond film.
  • As a special gift for her fans, Skye recorded a version of "River" by Joni Mitchell. She shared it on YouTube in November 2011.
