The Smoky Mountains are a cool mountain range located in Idaho, United States. They are part of the much larger Rocky Mountains. You can find them on the west side of the Wood River Valley, close to a town called Sun Valley.

Most of these mountains are inside the Sawtooth National Forest. A part of them is also in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. The highest point in the range is Saviers Peak, which stands tall at about 10,441 feet (3,182 meters).

The Smoky Mountains are surrounded by other mountain ranges. To the northwest are the Sawtooth Mountains. The Boulder Mountains are to the north, and the Pioneer Mountains are to the east. To the south, you'll find the Soldier Mountains. Rivers like the Big Wood, Salmon, and Boise get their water from these mountains. You can easily reach the mountains from Idaho State Highway 75. There are also many dirt roads that go into and across the mountains.

The Smoky Mountains got their name because of the many forest fires that used to happen there. For example, in 2007, a big fire called the Castle Rock Fire burned about 48,000 acres (19,000 hectares) of the Smoky Mountains near Ketchum.

Exploring Smoky Mountain Peaks

The Smoky Mountains have many different peaks, which are the tops of the mountains. The tallest one is Saviers Peak. It reaches an amazing height of 10,441 feet (3,182 meters). Other notable peaks include Norton Peak and Bald Mountain. These peaks offer great views and are popular for hiking.
